yet this traded for Dion Phaneuf?

I guess the allure of landing Dion Phaneuf was just too great. But this was stated during the Hoffman deal: https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1559863

It will be a great run for the 1st pick at the draft, with the Sens, Colorado and the Habs!

What is the most players and picks one guy has ever garnered in return? I can't think of a guy in any sport that yielded so many players/picks before.

I'd imagine the biggest was the Herschel Walker trade in the NFL. In hockey the Lindros trade is the largest I can recall, and in basketball Kevin Garnett to the Celtics was pretty big IIRC. I'm sure there's been some big baseball ones as well because so many of their trades are essentially a big name for a bunch of prospects.
