This idea is NOT an original. This was something done as a bit piece on wgr550 in Buffalo several years back.

Anyhow - I think with Guy Carbonneau going into over JR or Mogilny is ... well... wrong. Sorry Hab fans. So with that said, I want to conduct a fun exercise - lets THROW people out of the NHL Hall of Fame!!


How is this going to work?

Below will be a list of the Players inducted into the HHOF. You can chose 1 player per day and kick them out of the HOF. What I would like to do is come out with 1 team (4 C, 4 LW, 4 RW, 6 D and 2 G) that would be the SCF HOF Team.

You must give a reason for the elimination from the Hockey Hall of Fame. You might face ridicule (within reason - don't go overboard) for your selection, but once you make the selection, that player is GONE, no exceptions.

Lets start!

My selection for Removal on 22 July is Guy Carbonneau. My reasons are

1) He's a member of the 1999 Dallas Stars
2) He's in and JR and Mogilny are not??

I suggest eliminating Eric Lindros (C)

Reasons:
123rd on all time career goal list - sandwiched between Rick Kehoe(124th) and Dany Heatley (122nd) - both players could be argued were just as good as Eric Lindros in their prime
Never played all 82 games of the season
1x Hart Trophy Winner
1x Pearson Award Winner
How is he in the hall of fame, but guys like Rick Kehoe and Bernie Nicholls are not?

My first removal is EASY:

Dick Duff.

He retired at the end of the 1971-72 season. He a had long career, and was part of some great teams (won the Stanley Cup 6 times). He was first eligible for election to the HOF in 1975, but was elected in 2006.

Reason #1: In the 30 years between his eligibility, and his eventual election, his stats didn't improve.
Reason #2: Stats. He scored only 283 goals, 572 points, in 1030 games. That pales in comparison to deserving HOFers from the same era
Reason #3: Since I can only assume volume of championships is what got him in, I'll point out that he was not one of the top 5 players on ANY of the championship teams he played on, and I could even argue against him being a top 10 on those teams.

I would remove Dino Ciccarelli. Sure, he averaged almost a point per game, but he never won anything. Granted, he played 19 seasons, but again, most of his 1200 points came like Dave Andreychuk's, but Andy won a cup!

Ok - My elimination for July 23 is going to be Paddy Moran

Why? Well, from his HHOF profile page it states "He was a clutch goalie and in the big games was hard to beat."

but his overall stats (in a developing sport), especially his Goals against was over 4 for his career.

My elimination for July 23rd is going to be Clark Gillies.

- Never scored 40 goals.
-Highest point total 91 (1978-79)
-Very solid power forward - but not too many power forwards are in the HHOF.
- In my opinion, you put Dave Andreychuk on the Islanders in the early 80's, they win just as many Stanley Cups.

Day #2!

This selection is an easy one for me: Cam Neely.

Never won anything. Was a really good player on some really good Bruins teams, but he was never even a First Team All-Star. Never led the league in anything, and his career totals pale in comparison to most HOFers. Cut short due to injury? Yes, for sure that happened. If he'd been able to maintain how good he was mid-career, into a full career, I wouldn't be posting this.

Not a hall of fammer.

Rogie Vachon His win total was a product of longevity, 1/4th of his career shutouts came in a single season. Career GAA above 3.0, Save % <.900. Early success can be attributed largely to his 6 seasons playing for a dominant Habs team. His name is rarely included as one of the best goalies of the post expansion era.

No Cups, only 2 Lady Bing awards
Averaged just under 27 goals per season (402 goals in 15 seasons)
soon to be not even top 100 in goals

Sorry, but aside from defecting from the Czech Republic, what is Vaclav Nedomansky in the Hall for? 6 seasons in the NHL, playing for 3 different teams. 122 goals in 421 games, with a -92 should not get you in!
