This year’s National Sports Collectors Convention drew the biggest crowds since 1991 according to organizers.

While promoters of the show don’t release specific attendance figures, they say that the number of attendees during this year’s five-day run in Chicago was the largest since the famous event in Anaheim, CA 28 years ago. Over 64,000 tickets were sold for that event, which occurred at the height of the sports card boom. In all over 90,000 attended the show that year, a number boosted by card company giveaways that turned into profitable flipping ventures for some guests who didn’t have much of an interest in the hobby as a whole.

Attendance at the National has been increasing in recent years with the 2019 event coming on the heels of a well-attended event in Cleveland last year. Chicago has proven to be a can’t miss location over the years with a central location and large collecting base living within driving distance.

    Wow if true!

Where are all the naysayers that were saying the hobby was doomed a decade ago?
