    Newbie Seeking Advice

Greetings to everyone! I joined this forum seeking some advice. My husband was recently left a collector card collection. In collector books we have roughly 4000 baseball cards, 1500 basketball cards, 2000 football cards, 500 NASCAR cards, and 900 miscellaneous cards (TV and cartoon cards such as Batman, Star Trek, Little Mermaid, Xmen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and more). We also have a few thousand more cards that are in a box rather than in collector books.

My husband and I know very little about collector cards, but suspect that some of these cards are worth some money. What can we do at this point to learn the values of the cards and determine what this collection may be worth, without getting taken? Any and all advice is appreciated! We are a little overwhelmed to say the least. Thanks for your thoughts!

You can try taking images of the cards laid out on a table or something and people on here would be able to tell if you had anything of value from looking at the pictures. Or you can go to a bookstore or order online a Beckett Almanac that lists all the sets and their book values. I would only do this for baseball though as they are costly and if you don't have anything in baseball it would be slim you would have very valuable in other sports but not out of the 4000 baseball ones. I'm pretty sure all the TV and cartoon cards are commons unless they are the Star Trek from when it originally came out in the 1960s. That 90s non sport stuff was overproduced and is widely available for cheap.

You can also look on eBay to see what a certain cards or set is selling for. I agree with pictures of things. It would help everyone on the boards give you a possible value. Remember, what the book says and what it actually sells for are 2 different things. Another option is to get a comc.com account. (It's free) It will probably have a copy of the card and a picture and you can see what it is selling for on that site. Probably a little more in line with reality on an "actual" value. Since a real "what is it worth" is only what someone is willing to pay.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask away with any other questions.
