Born into a family of loyal Nebraska Cornhuskers fans and raised in the fiercely competitive Buckeye state, quarterback Joe Burrow has officially earned his stripes by becoming a Heisman Trophy winner for Louisiana State University.

Burrow won the coveted award on Saturday night and has the added distinction of bringing college football’s most celebrated honor back to Baton Rouge for the first time in 60 years.

The graduate transfer won the Heisman trophy in a landslide, with 2,608 points and 841 first-place votes – a record 90.7 percent of all the first-place votes available.

Burrow also set a record for percentage points available received with 93.8 percent, breaking the bar Troy Smith of Ohio State set in 2006.

The 23-year-old was named on 95.5 percent of the ballots, narrowly surpassing Oregon University’s Marcus Mariota in 2014.

Additionally, Burrow broke O.J. Simpson’s margin of victory record at 1,846.

In his acceptance speech, Burrow praised LSU coach Edward James Orgeron Jr., as he sniffled back tears of overwhelming joy.
