The thing is teams gave evidence (video recordings of the trash cans being banged) to MLB and they did absolutely nothing about this. So they just wanted to sweep it under the rug. But the online outrage over what the Astros did and all the people on social media basically caused these punishments to come out and even then it was just against the managers. MLB is protecting the players because if one gets suspended and they squeal or the player's union comes forward to protect the player this could get very ugly with a lot of players names getting thrown in the mud. That's the last thing they want.
