I'm sorry - if you are listing Kobe stuff on eBay with RIP in the title today, you suck! People in the #thehobby should be better than this.

Good call fellas. I looked on eBay and sportlots, just to see if the trolls came out, and boy did they. Cards that were $1 and $2 this morning are now $50 and $100! Disgusting. So glad you guess made this happen. Classy move and highly respected.

Even $5 and $8 rookies are upwards of $100. Makes me sick.

I hadn't updated my trade thread in about a month, but I removed the Kobe cards from it. I agree with SCF that it's not right to trade them right now; they went straight into the PC. I want to keep them there out of respect and for the memories.
And I have to admit that this has hit me more than I expected. I saw the news start popping up this afternoon, and it didn't seem real. I usually don't react to celebrity deaths, and I wasn't among his biggest fans -- but this is so shocking, such a terrible way to die (and with his daughter too), and I've been just stunned all day. I guess it's also because I'm such a basketball fan, and I'm old enough to remember his entire career, and his entire adult life of fame, which had so many ups and downs.
There were times when I liked him, and I always at least had great respect for his work ethic and talent. I particularly liked his early days -- designed a web site about him in 1998 when I was a teenager -- then got frustrated with his ego and the allegations and his selfishness in the early and mid 2000s. But I was also left in awe when he scored 81, respected him more when he won without Shaq, came to admire his incredible work ethic, and remember completely enjoying and marveling at his final 60 point game in the NBA, which I watched with my Celtics fan mother (she herself passed away in January 2018). We thought that was such a great end to his career. I have fond memories of that night.
Still hard to believe this happened. It will take awhile to process. :(
