Grading Question
Hi everyone. New here with a question about the grading process that PSA or Beckett would use. Today I broke out my old shoebox full of basketball cards from some 20 years ago. In it I had one Kobe Bryant rookie in a nice hard plastic case. I put on a pair of gloves to take the card out and inspect it. Card looks pristine. I plan to have it graded. However, it wasn't until I put the card back and took the gloves off until I realized the gloves have that weird powder residue on them (saw it on my table). Point is, this undoubtedly got on the card surface. Would PSA and Beckett take this "substance" on the card into account when grading? Or would them use some sort of device to blow it off and get rid of it? Beating myself up over this one. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Yes I believe that PSA and BGS will carefully inspect the surface of cards and account for it in the grading scores. What are the four categories listed on the BGS slabs again? I’m waiting in a drive through right now:
Centering, Corners, Edges, Surface?
Either way, great card to have and there is a PSA submission on SCF every two months or so. Have a good Super Bowl Sunday,
Dan

PSA is Corners, Edges, Surface and Centering, yes. Any suggestions on how to possibly get this residue off? Perhaps one of those computer air spray cans? Thank you. RIP Kobe

What Kobe card is it? Cards are different with some having very easy to clean surfaces on them.

so PSA would hold it against me if something is on the surface even if it can be easily removed ?

Any reason why you don't take something like a microfibre cloth and wipe it yourself?

And to answer your question, you'll get dinged by both. I have heard of folk who have had chrome cards with fingerprints (that can be wiped off) and gotten lower surface grades.
