RIP Henri Richard - A Celebration of a True Champion
Everyone is invited to post your Henri Richard cards, photos, memories, etc. in this thread.
This morning the Montreal Canadiens announced the passing of one of the all-time great players to wear la Sainte flanelle. Henri Richard won 11 Stanley Cups as a player, the most of anyone in NHL history. This is a record that will stand the test of time. The long-time captain of the Canadiens, Richard was not the intimidating force of his older brother, Maurice, but he carved out his own legacy as a leader and champion. He put up very good numbers as well, with 358 goals and over 1,000 points in a career that spanned from 1955 to 1975. His career best was 30 goals in the 1959-60 season, in which the Canadiens won their fifth consecutive Stanley Cup and Maurice announced his retirement.
I never had the opportunity to meet him in person, but Henri was one of the first players I ever sent a letter & TTM packaged. He returned my card (which will be shown here) along with an extra autograph. He was a true gentleman and one of the great ambassadors for the Canadiens.
RIP Henri Richard, the Pocket Rocket.
Farewell, Henri.
