can old top loaders ruin cards?

I watched a video of a guy who found some old top loaders and threw them away saying that "these are too old, they're no good anymore"

If you are putting your cards in a sleeve then a toploader I don't see how it could hurt the card. Maybe he was talking about the ones that were used a lot during the 90's. I think they were called Card Savers

Card savers are still around. Used a lot by folks submitting cards.
