Question Best place to buy Sealed Boxes wholesale in Canada

Hi guys. I am just starting to get back into hockey card collecting after quitting in 92. Yes that long ago 😁. I am in Calgary, Canada and looking to start catching up on buying new boxes of packs.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend the best Canadian suppliers of UD hockey that sells 2015-present boxes for cheap or cheaply prices or close to wholesale as possible. I prefer to open the packs myself so I figure I would be spending 10-15k worth (not all at once) to get myself caught up :)

and also being a relative newbie, which Upper Deck products I should focus on and which products I should stay away from. I have my preliminary list of bad boxes I should stay away from below. Let me know what you guys think.

    Bad or stay away products
O pee chee (except for Platinum)
    MVP
    Artifacts
    Parkhurst
    In The Game
    Synergy

    Good
    SP Authentic

Card conventions are usually the best place place. You can always negotiate down with the dealer.

Online, 'zephyr epic' and 'ebay' are good places to buy hobby boxes for a fair price

walmart/amazon are ok, but they seem to be a bit pricer that the above places.

other people who've been on here longer may have better suggestions.

I would honestly start with just one thing and buy into that (2-3 boxes) to go through - then come back here to talk about what you did or didn't like about the product and we can help steer you to the next product that might be a good fit

there's no incentive at any retailer to buy more product at once (no real concept of "spend $5000 and get a 10% discount") other than free shipping thresholds

your list for example...is a very small list based on the number of products out there today - very incomplete

also, the majority of products today are a one-pack-per-box product with all-hits that are generally made for group breakers (and an extremely small niche of whales within the hobby) - so I would say stay away from those until you've had a chance to get to know the hobby and those products to see if they will be a good fit for you

side note: no product in the hobby is "cost effective" - they're all suuuuuuper over priced. The closest thing to one that's priced properly is series 1&2 so potentially start there - cardboardmemories.ca often sells little bundles of a couple boxes of each

Thanks guys for the advice and recommendations of places to buy. I was tempted to buy from eBay as you suggested cjb but noticed that the shipping rates were quite expensive as most of the sellers appeared to be from the US shipping to the Canada. Then again Canada Post is notoriously expensive as I have noticed first hand how expensive things are to ship when I ship my old video games. Anything with a tracking number and they ding you badly.

So the concept of free shipping if you meet a certain treshold level as Stryfex pointed out is certainly very appealing for me. Especially since I would be buying a few boxes at a time anyways.

i did see the Walmart stuff but noticed they are indeed overpriced and they were almost always Retail. I heard to stay away from Retail and go for Hobby whenever possible as it’s better “hits”. I have to say what appealed to me to get back into the hobby was the auto cards, patch and memorabilia cards. I don’t think I have the patience to collect a full base sets. So I think because of this, Hobby is best for me??

I will definitely try Cardboardmemories as I do like the concept of them giving you a better deal if you buy more boxes. Figured I would be trying to get the best deal if possible as I can tell a lot has changed since I used to collect cards in late 80s to 92. Cards are significantly more expensive especially those single pack boxes like SP Game Used with only 6 cards. I think trying to collect a base set would be a pointless endeavour for sets like that brand. Might just go for the multi packs in a box so I can hopefully get some hits and i love the smell and sounds of opening packs too :)

Anyone else who has anymore suggestions and advice, on places to buy, please share them, I need all the help and advice I can get :)

breakaway sports cards is local to me, but does ship, and they have really good prices on boxes. I personally like hunting young guns with series 1 and 2.. I've been buying a lot of 16-17 retail trying to hit leafs lol. Got all the basic ones lol

I would reach out to a few of these shops. If you tell me you're willing to spend the dough you mentioned one might give you a better deal than the others.

I like artifacts, but would only buy current and last year. I also like o pee chee platinum and allure
