    Milestone! 1,300 rookie cards

    Hi folks,
This Ad will be removed when you a member of sportscardforum.com

I have reached a milestone. My rookie card collection now has rookies of over 1,300 different NHL players! 1,306 to be exact. It stretches from a 1954-55 Johnny Bower RC to a 2019-20 Upper Deck YG of Cody Glass. All of the rookies are of key players and/or players who may not be well known but managed to win a Stanley Cup (Mario Roberge in Montreal is an example), World Championship gold, etc.

I also have 10 rookie cards of NHL players who have multiple RCs (for example, Ryan Smyth has an RC as an Edmonton Oiler and others pictured with team Canada), and 10 of IIHF players who never played in the NHL (Vladislav Tretiak, Hayley Wickenheiser, etc.).

Never thought I'd hit that number!

Thanks to everyone I've dealt with over the years for helping me build this amazing collection!

    Tony

Do you have Paul Kariya's 1991-92 Upper Deck Czech?

Not too many know about those cards..

Do you know that Ziggy Palffy has 5 different rookies from the 1991-92 Upper Deck set?

Ryan Smyth has multiple rookies as an Oiler as well...

Yea, I have a 5,000 count box of obscure rookies... Some of which never even played in the NHL (at least regular season) but managed to get rookie cards - usually by Upper Deck, and I'm not talking about UD's Canada Cup, Olympic or WJC subset cards, but cards of them clearly playing in preseason games..

TBH, I'm not a fan of the Canada Cup, Olympic, WJC or even cards featuring players in their junior uniforms.. Because they're considered "rookie cards" (for some reason Karyia's 91/92 UD Czech WJC card isn't) because they essentially make their true NHL "unofficial rookie cards" featuring them in an NHL uniform worthless... IMO, all CC, OLY and WJC cards should be designated xRC's, much like in baseball in the 80's when prospects were featured in traded or update sets...

I mean the CC, OLY and WJC cards are cool but they're not "rookies"...... I mean is Patrick Kane's "true rookie" card Sylvian Turgeon's 1994 Pinnacle (I think it's Pinnacle) where you can see him in the background sitting with his dad?? because believe it or not, some people do and that card goes for like $15.00+++ And oddly enough - Turgeon was a First Overall pick like Kane, lol.

Oh and if anyone is looking for a Sylvian Turgeon's rookie, please PM me because I have about 200.. lol..

I have rookie cards of both Turgeon brothers. Sylvain was drafted second overall - Minnesota chose Brian Lawton first overall. Pierre was the first overall pick.

I don't generally collect "first cards" like the Czech set. Yes, I have some of those (Rafalski and Holzinger), but the rest I have no interest in.

I personally won't offer $15 for a card that happens to show a six-year-old in the background who, at the time, probably just learned his alphabet. It's a pure coincidence. It's a 10-cent card to me. Always will be.

I collect cards that have the "RC" designation only. Anything issued before that is a "pre-rookie card" to me and I'll never make an offer on one.

Huge congrats Tony! That was not an easy accomplishment. Now all you need to do is build a shed so you can display them all lol!
