Experienced Graders- Should I Send This Jordan RC BGS 4 to PSA for a Possible 5?
So I have a Jordan BGS 4 Fleer Jordan RC. It has subs of centering 8, edges 7.5, corners 6 and surface 3. I am considering sending it off to PSA for a possible PSA 5. The difference in recent eBay sales is like $1,000, so it would definitely be worth it. Has anyone done something similar and did it work out?
Also, if you haven't seen, PSA has a great quarterly special on grading Jordans. $10 each with a 25 card minimum.
This is a pic of it. No damage in the covered area. The surface 3 is because of the nasty scratch to the right of MJ's head and possibly the ink ring by his name.

Are you planning to sell it, or are you just wanting the bump for your own PC card? If you're not planning to move it I wouldn't bother - to me, it's not worth the risk of putting that kind of card in transit for a grade that's only for your own sake.

That's a good point. It's staying with me for now, but you never know and I guess my thought is if I were to have to sell it, I'd obviously want the highest grade possible.

It all comes down to personal preference. If 80's or newer stuff I prefer my PC stuff to be in a BGS holder. That being said if I can get a good deal on a PSA card I will most likely keep it in that holder. Also if my LCS will submit some cards either to BGS or PSA at a discounted rate I am not picky.
Sounds more like you are looking to move this card eventually. I think you also need to consider both sides of the coin.
This card is graded a BGS 4. That is the only given you have right now. If it comes back as a PSA 4, will you be ok with that? What if PSA thinks it is lower? If you grade a lot and willing to take the chance go for it. In my honest opinion I would just list it online at a higher price than what you are looking to get and put best offer as an option. Jordan rookie is always in demand and even more interest with the documentary and nostalgic collectors right now.

BGS limits the grade to the lowest sub grade plus 1. So even though the 4 sub grades don't average a 4 you have a 3 so the best it can get with BGS is a 4. With PSA you might be able to get a 5 or 6. Not saying it will but there is always a chance whereas with Beckett you cannot unless the lowest sub grade gets bumped up some.

Right. That rule is what has me thinking maybe PSA could go higher. Was hoping someone here has had something similar happen.
