"Tallas" About the Best Third Jersey Design Ever! New Goalie Museum Relic!

It has been a couple of slow months for additions to the goalie museum collection. Our last piece was a stunning '83-84 Gary Laskoski game worn Kings sweater. We are working on our next Game Worn Jersey 101 video, as well as deep in the planning stages of incorporating and re-branding the goalie museum's business name, however, today we finally got our first of two long awaited new additions into our vast library of goaltending history.

Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, all that jazz to BRCGoaltending Museum on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and Twitter!

Rob Tallas was born on March 20, 1973 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. A solid back up, then starter for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL over three seasons (1991-94), he transitioned to the minor-pros in 1994-95 with the Providence Bruins and Charlotte Checkers. His consistent play got him signed as a free agent by the Boston Bruins in September of 1995. He spent the majority of the 1995-96 season as the back-up in Providence, however, on March 7, 1996...it happened! On recall by Boston, he was given the start in goal against the Islanders. Tallas stopped 26 of 29 shots in a 4-3 victory.

The next season, he split time evenly between the AHL and NHL, as he appeared in 28 games with Boston, recording an 8-12-1 record with a shutout and 0.882% save average. In 1997-98, he recorded his statistically strongest year, posting a 1.83GAA and 0.926% save average over 14 games. The next two seasons saw him play an additional 38 games with the club. Now a free agent, the Chicago Blackhawks signed Tallas to be the back-up to Jocelyn Thibault in 2000-01. Over 12 games with the Hawks, he recorded only 2 wins, and a 0.868% save average. He played two more seasons in the AHL thereafter, and then two additional seasons in Europe before retiring from play in 2005. In 2009, he was hired as the Florida Panthers' goaltending coach, a position he still holds as of the 2019-20 season. In March of 2015, he was even dressed as the Emergency Back-Up Goalie for the Panthers against the Maple Leafs, though he did not get to play.

In his career, Rob Tallas appeared in 99 games, recording a 28-42-10 record with a 2.91GAA, 3 shutouts, and a 0.891% save average. He appeared in no post-season games.

What you are looking at right now is a 1996-97 Boston Bruins Third Set 1 (Pooh Bear) game worn jersey utilized by Tallas in various home games throughout the season. It features several lighter puck and stick marks throughout, some very light pilling, slight salt deposits in the fight strap, as well as a very crude material backed "patch job" on a hole near the crest. Due to limited photography from that era, the jersey is only photoreferenced at this time.

Acquired From: Craig Baumken on FB, jersey has appropriate set tagging.

Dates of Game Use: Exact dates not known at this time

Photomatched: Referenced only at this time.
