He has signed his pro contract with the Habs and being involved in the team's activities in the bubble did burn the first year of his ELC; however, unlike some of the other players who played with the "Black Aces" while in the bubble (i.e. Byram, McMichael, Dellandrea, etc) he wasn't eligible to play in the games. The other guys could have, but not him. As a result, we will have to wait until he actually debuts. Not a matter of "love," just the rules.Habs fan and collector! Much like a lot of the rookies, if he was in the bubble there's a good chance he was eligible to play and was granted an exemption.

That's correct. The team wanted him in to acclimate him to the North American game so they signed him to his ELC.
However, per an MOU between the NHL and the PA, any players who hadn't signed a contract before the season halted on March 12th wouldn't be eligible for game action in the playoffs.

Not odd to me when you consider the very small list of other players of interest. Would you buy a box just for 1 YG? I'm still not convinced it's worth the energy for a chance at the YGC (beyond the fact that I'm not a young guns guy). They had to go big with this one in order to sell it at a price point that still makes the company money.

I think just having the regular YG would have kept the demand here for UD1, but I do understand the decision behind it. I just figured they'd keep up with the "normal" model of having the YG / YG Canvas split between UD1 & UD2 for the top draft pick.
This could make for some sweet breaks hitting both in the same break!Jhonas Enroth Card Collector & Host of the Hidden Content

The problem really comes down to uncertainty about the status of the upcoming season. The NHL has said many times that the goal is to start January 1. It's already mid-November and we haven't seen any formal announcement. Players are going to have to be recalled from all over the world, quarantine for two weeks, training camps, likely not much of a pre-season this year. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if we do get a season starting in January.
All of that is going to impact the hobby and the hype surrounding Series 1/2. If there's no games happening, it's really going to impact the viability of S2. The only big name they held back from the draft was Byfield, and it is a bit of a stretch to assume any of the other kids drafted last month are NHL-ready. Doesn't leave much of a roster. I wonder if there's potential that Byfield and a handful of others get their YG inserted in SP Authentic. Tough to know.

I think Lafreniere being in Series1 is the only real selling point here. Overall, it doesa look like a weak group. Will probably just be giving Series 1 a miss this year.

Maybe a couple of blasters for me during the black friday sale. Not too many decent options for cheap discounted wax at the moment with the covid craze. I'll have to be picky and hunt for singles :)Last edited by odjickfan; 11-15-2020 at 06:41 PM.
