    Grading costs

I’m interested in understanding the reason/justification of grading companies for charging more to grade high-value cards. I just started exploring this, and I see other collectors asking but not getting answers. Is the question considered dumb or is it controversial? What explains the need — if it’s a need — to charge for grading based on an estimated (speculative) value. I’m interested in the reasoning and whether it’s considered valid, by and large.

I don't think PSA or any other grading company has ever come out with a real good explanation. The main reasoning (so I have been told) is the insurance for the replacement value, if in fact the card get's lost or otherwise damaged.

PSA's current policy is if they damage or lose your card, they pay you the value you placed on the card, as such, the charge more.

The second reason, is the turn around time. The lower cost options have much longer turn around times. All of my submission are taking forever because they are lower tier and as such, long turn around times. I sent in 1 slightly higher tiered card, it is taking a while, but it has been in the process less time than my larger bulk submission, it is moving through the stages faster... but it costs more.

That is the best I can explain.
