What is up with NFL PLayers getting in trouble.

We can add 2020 1st Round Pick Jeff Gladney to the list of players in trouble.

    National Felon League?

They always seem to outpace the NBA, MLB, and NHL and everything else combined in players getting in trouble with the law. Wonder if CTE is the cause of it?

Well in fairness a lot more NFL players to get in trouble. NBA team has what 15 or so players on a roster? MLB has 20 something? Each NFL team has a 52 man active roster.

I am just guessing on the numbers with the other sports but I figured I’m close enough. I don’t think the NFL is any worse average wise just more of them to get in trouble and for us to hear about.

The USA Today has a database of player arrests, charges, and citations given to active NFL players since 2000 - https://databases.usatoday.com/nfl-arrests/

Some background info: Until 2020, the active roster for a team was 53 players. 53*32 = 1,696 active players. In 2020 some slight roster tweaks led to essentially a 55 player roster which gives 1,760 total active NFL players.

Here's the percentage of arrests to players in each year:

    2020 - 21 arrests, 1,760 NFL population, 1.19% arrest rate
    2019 - 30 arrests, 1,696 NFL population, 1.77% arrest rate
    2018 - 34 arrests, 1,696 NFL population, 2.00% arrest rate
    2017 - 43 arrests, 1,696 NFL population, 2.54% arrest rate

Here are the numbers for the United States as a whole:

2020 - info not available, 331,002,651 US population, N/A arrest rate
    2019 - 10,085,207 arrests, 329,064,917 US population, 3.06% arrest rate
    2018 - 10,310,960 arrests, 327,096,265 US population, 3.15% arrest rate
    2017 - 10,554,985 arrests, 325,084,756 US population, 3.25% arrest rate

source on US population - https://www.worldometers.info/world-...us-population/
source on arrests in US by year - https://www.statista.com/statistics/...us-since-1990/

Maybe compared to other pro leagues the NFL might be worse, but they are certainly better than the total US population. I agree CTE can play a factor into some of the crimes but it's more likely CTE-related problems occur well after a playing career is finished.
