Corey Perry Game Worn Mailday!

Hockey can be funny sometimes. When the Habs first signed Corey Perry, I was a little skeptical. He was, of course, a great player in his prime and he is certainly a future HHOF'er. But man, he was a bit of a dirty player. He made an immediate positive first impression, though, scoring a goal in his first game in a Habs uniform.



From there, he demonstrated a ton of leadership and character for the CH, throughout the regular season and well into the playoffs. You see the value of his experience in key games and moments. I think all of us Habs fans will always remember the image of him racing back from the dressing room after having his face bloodied in the OT of Game 3 against Vegas to celebrate with his teammates after Josh Anderson won it. I think we all were hoping he'd stay with the team, and just go year-to-year until he decided to retire. However, Tampa came calling with an extra year of term, and so ended a beautiful one year fling.

That made yesterday's mailday a little more bittersweet. Club 1909 did its annual game-used jersey drop back in June (on the very day we punched our ticket to the Cup Finals) and I was fortunate enough to get the Perry away jersey. The site says that it was worn against the Leafs on February 13 (a 2-1 win!); however, some research on the markings (and there are MANY) shows that it was (also) worn against the Jets on March 17th (a 4-3 OT loss). Very nice piece, somewhat bittersweet as you say but awesome to have. He did have a great season with the Habs. I also wasn't a fan before he joined the team, but he played a character year, cleaned up his act, and showed a ton of leadership.
