    Tell your unicorn story

The unicorn card is a card you have searched for and never found or just not been able to capture for what ever reason.

Tell us about your unicorn success stories and/or the hunt that continues. Maybe someone will read this and be able to help. Not sure if a thread like this exists yet.

I finally was able to get one of mine.

1992 Cotton Bowl Classic Moments Mike Singletary.

Supposedly this card and 23 others where issued in the game program from the 1992 Cotton Bowl. I have seen some of the others from the set but never laid eyes on or seen a picture of the Singletary card until I found this one. Also of interesting note: On the cover of the game program is a picture of some of the cards (not Singletary) and I have seen some game tickets that also had a picture of the individual cards from the set (also never seen Singletary game ticket)

I am going to leave it listed in my signature because I’d like a raw copy. Only three more cards needed to have every known card from his playing years. (1992 Wildcard Stripe Cards listed in the sig)

I’d like to hear others stories if you got one.

Great topic! The first set I went after that was hard to find was 2000 Playoff Absolute Leather and Laces. Beckett listed it as a 126-card set which I wound up correcting them multiple times on the way to making it a 130-card set. They were inserted one-per-box and cards were serial numbered out of 175 or 350. Each included a triangular piece of game used (and game dated on the back) football. There's also a Leather & Laces Combos version which are serial numbered to /10 or /20 which includes two pieces of the lace from the football as well. I picked up a smattering of those to add a little pizzazz.

My first Leather and Laces card came from a box I bought in 2000 while working at a local pharmacy in Chicago (like Walgreens but not a chain) and the owner agreed to pick up a box from our vendor Eby-Brown and have that cost deducted from my paycheck. I think it was Antonio Freeman, can't remember if it was the /175 or /350 version. I started pursuing the set in 2008 with intent and finished it off in 2015.

The last two that took forever to find were Tim Dwight which was randomly found here on SCF (by way of Photobucket) and Bobby Engram on eBay. It was from a seller breaking up a longtime collection of Bears stuff and I messaged him asking if he had it and he did!

My intent at the time was to collect one of the largest game used memorabilia sets out there and man it felt awesome to finish it off! Someday I want to frame the whole set and hang it on my wall.

You can see all the cards and checklist scanned in here - http://jplarson.com/2000_LeatherLaces.htm

Great story. I think I have seen you mention this set before. At least I think I remember seeing these cards of yours. The pictures and they way to view them are incredibly cool!

    Very cool stories.
that 2000 Playoff Absolute Leather and Laces set is awesome. I have one of the /10 cards in my PC.

My main collection is of Amos Zereoue.
Over the years, I have found a few of those "unicorn cards" that eluded me.
    I call them White Whales.

From 2010, I needed 5 cards (well, plus a lot of 1/1s) to get to 100% of his cards.
I have obtained all 5, but 1 is a non-numbered version / probably from CE to originally be used as a replacement for damaged cards, so I still need the regular version of - 1999 Collector's Edge Fury HoloGold 200 Amos Zereoue #/10
I also got only 2 of his 1/1s in this 12 year span, so I have many more of those to find, as well.

My progression is seen on my Super Collector HOF page - https://www.sportscardforum.com/thre...3-Amos-Zereoue

1999 Collectors Edge Fury Personal Collection Autographs #1/1 (Obtained in July 2011)
1999 Bowman's Best Atomic Refractors Rookie Class Photo C1 #/35 (Obtained in January 2013)
1999 Collector's Edge First Place Millennium Collection Blue 187 (Obtained in April 2013 - someone saw my post needing it, and gave it to me for free!)
    1999 Upper Deck Encore F/X Gold 202 #1/1 (Obtained in August 2013)
2003 West Virginia Greats 59 (Obtained in May 2014) (This card was included in a WVU football program from the 2003 season - I have only found a loose copy, so I still want the version in the program)
1999 SPx Spectrum #91 Amos Zereoue 1/1 NNO (Obtained in June 2016) (This card is a non-numbered version / probably from UD to originally be used as a replacement for damaged cards, so I still need the regular version)
1999 Collector's Edge Triumph Signed, Sealed, Delivered Red AZ #/10 (Obtained in 2019 ... AND A SECOND COPY ALSO IN 2019!)

It took me 20 years to find that SSD Red Ink, and I found 2 in 2 months. Weird how it goes.

So, I have faith that someday I'll find the others I need.

These are the Amos Zereoue cards that I Need/Want:

1999 Collector's Edge Fury HoloGold 200 Amos Zereoue #/10 (I do have a non-numbered copy / probably from CE to originally be used as a replacement for damaged cards?)
$30 finders fee (it's entire BV), if it leads me to a successful deal.

2003 West Virginia Greats 59 Amos Zereoue (This was included in a WVU football program from the 2003 season – I do have a loose copy. I need a version that is still in the program.)

1999 Bowman's Best Memorabilia Redemption 31 Amos Zereoue (I do have the Football, but there might be other versions. Some players had mini helmets. There might be other memorabilia items as well? I would also buy/trade for the expired redemption card.)

Also looking for any of his 1/1s.
1999 Collector's Edge Fury Personal Collection Autographs 21 Amos Zereoue
1999 Collector's Edge Triumph Personal Collection 180 Amos Zereoue
1999 Fleer Focus Masterpieces 160 Amos Zereoue
1999 Fleer Mystique Masterpiece 137 Amos Zereoue
1999 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Masters 244 Amos Zereoue
1999 SPx Spectrum 91 Amos Zereoue
1999 Stadium Club Printing Plates Black 152 Amos Zereoue
1999 Stadium Club Printing Plates Cyan 152 Amos Zereoue
1999 Stadium Club Printing Plates Magenta 152 Amos Zereoue
1999 Stadium Club Printing Plates Yellow 152 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 1 Black One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 1 One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 1 Red One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Black One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Red One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 3 One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 3 Red One to One 97 Amos Zereoue
1999 Ultra Masterpiece 297 Amos Zereoue
1999 Upper Deck Exclusives Gold 247 Amos Zereoue
1999 Upper Deck Retro Platinum 126 Amos Zereoue
2000 Ultra Masterpiece 78 Amos Zereoue
2003 Score Final Score Atlantic City National Promos 118 Amos Zereoue

Finders fee for these, if it leads me to a successful deal, as well!

...and I usually take multiples of jerseys and patch cards (especially 2001 Pacific Prism Atomic Jersey Patches 143 Amos Zereoue), rarer cards, autos, error cards, and serially numbered cards, especially if they are numbered:
    #1/xx (first)
    #13/xx
    #20/xx
    #21/xx
    #28/xx
    #31/xx
    #95/xx
    #xx/xx (last)

My unicorn is on Ebay right now, but the seller wants way too much money for it. I don't have this kind of money nor would I buy it even if I did. I tried to send him a message, but that went no where. A week or so later another guy from Japan listed the same card for even more money. There is only one of these cards ever made and the pictures are the same. This sucks.

That's crazy that 1) there are 2 listed, when there is only 1 of that card, and 2) the prices on them

    dang.

Do you have any of the other letters?

Yeah. I think the second and higher listing must be a shop or business. I assume the actual owner knows the seller and had him list it for even higher. Yes, I have the other 5 letters and paid no where near that much for all 5. That is why I am really wanting this card. It would complete the set and make me very happy. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks. He relisted it with a little lower price, but we still have a long ways to go.
