Lightbulb New to Cards and New to SCF - Just bought 10,000 cards for $100

    Hey All!,

I'm located up in Canada and I'm just getting into trading cards. Hockey in particular but definitely open to other sports as well.

Growing up my younger brother was the avid collector between us, he had his collection stolen so we both dropped it after that.

Just recently I bought a box of Upper Deck Hockey Cards (mostly 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and some later years as well). 99% of the cards are in exceptional condition. Honestly shocked. It's like they were put in the box in the early 90s and never moved since then.

So why am I here? Well I paid $100CAD for the box and it contained well over 10,000 cards. Yup ten thousand.

I haven't quite been through them all, but I've been comparing what I have to ebay sold listings over the last year - seeing what sells well raw as well as what is worth grading.

I picked up a magnifier with a light on it so I can really examine the surface, corners, edges, centering etc, so I can do my best to judge for sending anything for grading.

My highlight so far is finding three 1990 Jaromir Jagr #356 cards - thinking of sending them for grading. Open to advice!

I'm not an expert, but I am pouring my time and energy into learning all I can about this incredible industry.

I am here to learn from you all, to ask questions, contribute to discussions and grow with the community.

Let me know if you have any questions about my find, or if you're looking for a particular card or something - just a thought.

Anyway! Thanks again everyone. Glad to be here.

    - Cam (pureforward)

@pureforward welcome to the site and to the hobby :)

Probably not worth the time or money sending that card in to be graded, its a $2 card raw, little more if its the french version. If they were actually put in a box in the 90's and not touched since then there is a good chance a lot of them will be stuck together. There isnt much to look for in those years and not a lot of demand. Your best bet may be to build complete sets and sell them that way.....and keep a set from each year for yourself if you were a fan in that era. You got a ton of cards.....but even so probably over paid.

Welcome to SCF. Another option would be to break things down into star player lots. Sometimes 20-30 base cards of a star player or HOFer can net $10 or so.
