FT: BRAND NEW Beckett Hockey Monthly November 1994 issue #49 (Goalie Masks on cover)!
As stated in my title, Beckett is brand new, and I mean it!!! Protective plastic comes with it, the magazine has never been leafed through; simply put it's a journey through time, back in 1994, and you see this magazine on the shelf of a card shop, that's literally the condition of my price guide.
Even though those are usually not as trendy as cards, I was wondering if any on here would be interested?! Looking 4 cards of Roy or Bobrovsky in return.. As a last resort, I could always sell it, but I'd really rather trade. Plmk; you can reply within this thread but pm's always work best! Thanks!Last edited by sleepn0t; 06-28-2023 at 03:48 AM.

So nobody wants a brand new Beckett price guide?! I also have a used (but still in very good condition) 2009 June/July one, with Sidney Crosby on the cover (vol. 20, issue #212)... Taking low-end Roys and/or Bobrovskys in trade. Plmk if interested! Thx!

It amazing but most folks do not tend to collect these as there really nothing unique about the magazine because it is out of date. Think about displaying it you have to store it somewhere and over the years few folks want items like this. Why, I am not sure but I think from a pc perspective it would be great if you had all the goalies autograph the magazine to make it truly a unique item. I am sure there someone out there who will want it but like you I have magazine sitting back that I have not traded. I will try to add a picture of something I found in a old magazine LOL.

How could it be brand new if it's 1994?
I threw away all my Becketts years ago, even the first addition with Wayne Gretzky on the cover. Wonder it that was a mistake?Last edited by cjb; 06-25-2023 at 03:32 PM.

Well, then let's say that the magazine is still in the same condition than when it was just released, back in 1994... Is it any better this way? You know, at the very beginning, once just finished to be printed, it was brand new, right? So, in short, it's still in this same condition. Like if we were still in November 1994 if you will.. Hope this clarifies things up!
Btw, thanks to all for viewing, and thanks also to you both for having replied to my thread so far. Hopefully I can find a collector on here who's gonna appreciate it. Don, your idea of making sign the cover by each & every goaltender whose mask is on it is just SO GREAT! Awesome! Wish I had thought of this 1st. But at the same time, it may be a tad complicated?! And a long-term process for sure.. But thanks for sharing. I will seriously think about (doing) this. Unless I quickly find some1 who's interested in having it.

Most beckets were produced during the junk wax era so finding early issues in mint condition are probably not that hard to find. Shipping costs for an item that big can also be a pain in the butt.
On a side note, it's fun to open them up and look at those overinflated prices back then, lol.
One thing that stood out to me was the price of vintage checklists. In the old price guides they were about a few dollars. Now they've increased 10 fold.

Over the years, as a Roy collector, I tried to purchase one copy of each Beckett price guide that had Roy featured on either the back or the front cover. Believe it or not, this dup one is the best copy I have. I mean, all my other magazines are in less good condition than this one.
So, either I'm not looking at the right place, either finding old pristine Beckett mags is really harder than what you think! And I'd be tempted to go with option no. 2. Most of the people pretend and state that their price guides (for sale) are in Mint condition, while in reality they are rather 4 or 5 of Grade at the most.
It happened to me many times in the past. Numerous, not to say countless defects on the covers; wear signs, scratches, stains, you name it. Most of the time all the pages are there, no tearings, but man is all the rest "beaten up" or what?!?Last edited by sleepn0t; 06-25-2023 at 05:08 PM.

That is a nice looking Becket mag, with all the goalie masks. I still have many boxed up somewhere. Certainly have all with an Yzerman cover or Wings covers.
In a box somewhere in my house I have the first 5 issues of each sport. Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. I wonder what kind interest they might draw.
Never really thought of them having a trade value. You have peeked my curiosity here I may have to dig them out lol.

@41butch
Why wouldn't they be worth anything?! True that the market for them is really small and limited, but still.. I've put an ad on fb marketplace lately to "get rid" of my 2009 Beckett of Crosby; a guy was willing to give me 3 bucks for it, but I'm pretty sure I could even have gotten a little bit more. The only reason why I still have it, is because he wanted me to ship it to him... Even if he lives half an hour from my place. Of course, he was covering the shipping fees too, but I told myself that for a $3 price guide it wasn't really worth it. Anyway, if he really wants it I guess that he'll reach out to me again at some point to come pick it up directly at my place. Else, it's just three dollars so whatever.. I do ship, but only when I sell/trade on here, or when I list something on eBay. When it's on fb marketplace, I prefer fast deals by meeting-up with the buyer, face to face! There's a reason why I post on facebook, and when I do I want the transaction to be simple & fast. I wanna keep it as easy as possible.
Plus, although not being sports cards, for a specific player collector it can always be interesting. For instance, I've been collecting St. Patrick for the last sixteen years now, therefore I also tend to buy most of the price guides on which he's depicted. The person who wanted my Crosby one is probably a Sid the Kid collector, or otherwise a fan of the Penguins. Didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure of this. The goalies masks issue, I have it twice. So that's why I'm letting one go. And as you mentioned it, what's cool(er) about it is that there are many masks on the cover.. Thus, I'm guessing that anyone who collects goaltenders might be interested in it, or, any fan of each goalkeepers' mask featured on its cover, or at least of either one of the seven ones there are on it... Namely, as followed:
-Patrick Roy (Montreal Canadiens)
-Rick Tabaracci (Washington Capitals)
-Jimmy Waite (San Jose Sharks)
-Andy Moog (Dallas Stars)
-John Vanbiesbrouck (Florida Panthers)
-Trevor Kidd (Calgary Flames)
-Ron Hextall (New York Islanders)
Anyways, I just contacted back the one guy that wanted my "Crosby guide", and I offered him both of my Becketts for a reasonable price; so let's see what happens from now on.. To be continued... Thanks a lot !!!
