Question on a hockey card

I have a 09/10 SPGU Authentic Fabrics card AF-GH of G Howe. The game used piece is GREEN.
Every where on the card it says Detroit Red Wings. My question is where is the green piece from? Is it from when he played for the Hartford Whalers or did the Wings at some point have a sweater that had green in it.

Unfortunately that era is replete with mismatched jersey swatches and players depicted with the "wrong" team. The Howe you have (based on looking at others) would be featuring a Whalers jersey.

I can be somewhat understanding when it's a current player who recently switched teams. But for guys who have been retired for years and years, as Howe was in 2009-10, there's no viable reason to not have the jerseys & the swatches match up.

@cjb The dreaded Old Timers Game jersey. I think just about every retired player who ever played in one of those games sent it straight to UD afterwards. LOL
