Really? Nobody knows why? Well then allow me to tell you.
Its because they have too many players playing for themselves & not the team. They're team commitment to defense is absolutely atrocious. As a team they have given up the 2nd most goals against. Do you know who has given up the most goals as a team so far this year? Pittsburgh, lol, yeah, the team who put in 6 goals in the 3rd period alone last game to win 9-2. That should tell you all you need to know...Main PC:Leafs Rookies- Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Knies, Woll, Rielly, Stolarz & Hildeby
Current Jays Rookies (Vlady, Bichette, Gausman)
Bills Rookies of Josh Allen

That Hutson kid is impressive & even Guhle too but they were forced into the NHL too young & didnt have time to develop. That Xhejah guy is a pylon. Good thing he can fight cause thats all he can do. Montembault on team Canada? I would have picked Logan Thompson over him any day of the week.
Its not just the defenseman's fault, they're forwards dont help there cause very much either. Too many overpaid players like Gallagher, Dach & Anderson. How Josh Anderson is not your prototypical power forward who scores 30-40 goals a year is an absolute head scratcher for me. You watch him play some games & he's the most impressive guy on the ice for either team but those games are few & far between. Those are just a few of many players on that team who underachieve every year.
Remember when they got there new GM & everyone was so excited? They got him from the Rangers & look what they are going through now? He built an underachieving team that was a perennial Cup contender who never quite lived up to expectations. Do you see a pattern here.
Was Slafkovsky really a 1st overall pick? They judged him by his play in the Olympics where he played well but in reality he was playing against AHL lineups & ex NHL'ers. Would they pick him 1st overall again if they could go back now & do it all over again? I highly doubt it..
Here's some food for thought. Since 2020 its been Montreal & Ottawa at the bottom of the overall standings. That means high draft picks every year since then for both teams. After a few years of underachieving even Ottawa are finally getting better.

Oh yes Montreal blows and I am happy about that. One thing that puzzles me is how bad Detroit Red Wings are. They've been 'rebuilding' for many many years now. Still cannot make the playoffs. I am starting to lose faith in Yzerman. So many good players, Young Guns prices would be comparable to Montreal YGs except 2 of their top young star are Defensemen which do not garner much value compared to offense.
I like Slafkovsky but he seems very immature, same with Xhekaj. Slafkovsky seems to think he is the best thing in the league but I cannot even get a point. The team does not seem to be playing with cohesion at all, making it seem yes, like someone said already, they are playing for themselves and not as a team.
Slafkovsky could be the next Alexander Daigle. Xhekaj could become totally unwanted by anyone and have a short career like Sean Avery.
I'm glad Montreal exists. Their fans are crazy and spend tons of money on any rookie and any player that gets traded to them. Most Montreal Rookie Cards are worth their weight in gold the year they come out lol
I hope Slafkovsky turns it around. I also like Xhekaj and I have seen him contemplate doing something but taking the high-road only to lose that thought process and control and do something totally stupid and suspension worthy later on in the same game. Hoping Laine becomes the beast we all know he has the potential to be. Montreal does not seem to have much defense and their goalie situation is terrible. I am also very biased about Martin St. Louis. I do not like him as a person or player because he dives and embellishes which I think are terrible traits to have and very unsportsmanlike. Hutson looks very good! Tons of potential there.
A lot is going wrong for Montreal, but they're not performing the worst compared to some other teams.Last edited by Cunnuc; 12-14-2024 at 08:08 AM.

BTW, every YG listed there is massively overpriced with the exception of maybe Caufield. How is Hutson over $100? Sure he has some points, all assists but he is also a -14. Not 1 of those higher priced YG's are worth even close to what they are selling for, at least not now why they absolutely suck!!

In short, we have the second-youngest team in the NHL, an inexperienced defence core outside of Matheson/Savard, and a core forward group that has not been capable of playing a full season without injury. The goaltending…it’s a long way from the days of Carey Price, who masked A LOT of organizational problems and allowed Bergevin to keep his job for several years. Montembeault is a competent NHL-level goalie, but the backup Primeau absolutely is not.
Put all that into the mix and you’ve got a recipe for a bottom five team. You can see occasional glimpses of where they want to be and the potential for when they’ve all got more experience under their belts, but the roster as currently constructed is going to have some pretty rough nights.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
