How does Carlos Delgado get more votes than Don Mattingly for the Hall of Fame?

Here is my take. Congrats JK. Well deserved. Happy and content you got in. Nuff said.

Bonds, Clemens, Gary, all belong no question and i am somewhat upset that these guys didn't make it. Especially Gary. Gary like Curt Schilling it seems the media just hates them and it is totally political by now. Steroids were a part of the 80's/90's. I am sure there were a ton of no-name guys, as well as some household names that were doing it therefore the playing field was somewhat equal plus that disproves that roids made you better. You still had to execute and put the bat on the ball or throw smart. Fast balls don't always mean strike outs. The legality and knowledge of it AT THE TIME was questionable at best. Roids were meant for faster healing. All of these guys were raking before roids came into the picture.

Murph and Delgado its debatable but if they got in i wouldn't have an issue.

Donnie baseball is my top 3 favorite players of all-time. That being said i am not sure he makes the cut for the Hall. Compared to the others on this ballot, he falls a hair short. A bit more Games, HITS, and PA's and he would be there. If he did get it i would like to think it is for his all around contribution to the game as a manager as well. I know this is very sentimental vote but please think with your heads rather than just your heart.

With that said we still need Lou Whitaker and Keith Hernandez in. Lous's stats are just unbelievable that he is not in the HOF and Trammel is. Keith although his stats are little lower but still worthy. His leadershiip for winning teams and his contribution to MLB deserve HoF induction.

The baseball Hall of Fame it seems has no real standards anymore other than having to like and be friends with the media. David Ortiz was a PED user and he zipped in while guys like Bonds, Clemens, Sheffield, McGwire, Sosa, etc are blocked. Jeff Kent and Curt Schilling weren't linked to steroids but they weren't liked by the media either and they have either had to wait forever or aren't in yet. Same thing kinda happened to Bert as I think he was made to wait until his 15th ballot. Also the peak of a player or their awards or their defense only seems to work in the favor for some players. Other guys have it as well but they struggle getting in. Even post season success is somewhat arbitrary in how it is celebrated or respected.

I was hoping Donnie baseball would make it, yes, his stats maybe short but he was a hard worker. Better than Carlos Delgado. Dale Murphy is in the same boat as Donnie baseball. It seems like the voting is not what it used to be and if Rose gets in and not Shoeless Joe, then I will not care about the Hall of Fame.

In my old heydays I only remember two pitchers creating as much buzz for a city and that would be Mark Fidrych for his crazy antics and Fernandomania for creating a mob of Latino that supported him in L.A. in the likes I not seen since. If you look at his stats was he cursed with a bad luck as the dodger teams of he 80's were better than average as they won two World Series in the 80's. Of course that did not translate to wins for Fernando.

In April 1985, Fernando Valenzuela had historically dominant pitching (0.21 ERA, 41.2 scoreless innings to start the season, breaking an MLB record), but received abysmal run support from the Los Angeles Dodgers, resulting in a 2-3 record despite his brilliance, with the team scoring only 8 runs in his 5 starts, setting a precedent for poor run support despite phenomenal pitching.

In the one win they scored 5 runs but scored only 3 runs in the other 4 games played. Kind of amazing when you think you can have a losing record with a .21 ERA. I mean you think it bad when Skense has a subpar 2.00 and breaks even at 10 and 10 for the all-star break.

At the end of the day
His window was short due to his shoulder injury which hurts him among the voters. When I think about a dominant pitchers how many were better in the early to mid 80's than Fernando if you wanted a guy who would shut down the opposing team.

Dale Murphy is a HOFer to me. Great guy too. Couldn't have been nicer every time I met him.
