Show & Tell: Justice League Comics, Ongoing Thread.
While the Legion of Super-Heroes is my all-time favourite comic book series, Justice League would be a very close second. On and off for 46-47 years I have been buying various Justice League comics, starting with the spinner racks in convenience stores in Labrador in 79-80, moving on to comic book stores as an adult, and starting to buy vintage issues here and there over the years. My first JLA book in 1979 was #173 where the Justice League approach Black Lightning for membership and he refuses. I had read some JLA in reprint digests leading up to that book, but #173 had me hooked. While I no longer have that book(still need a copy for my collection) it began a love for the book that followed it throughout the years and series.
With my recent reorganization project I was able to take pics of a large number of my Justice League books, with a lot more still to be taken. Here is a picture of my current collection in three long boxes. I will start in replies to this post to add books from my collection starting with Justice League of America Volume 1, and then add on from there with additional series, variant covers, and specials.
(Can't post pictures in first posts, need to edit in a photo.)

Here are some of my JLA books from Vol 1
JLA Vol 1 #41 December 1965, This is the oldest Justice League book I have, published 8 years before I was born.

JLA Vol 1 #45 June 1966, First Shaggy Man.

JLA Vol 1 #52 March 1967,

JLA Vol 1 #56 September 1967, Part Two of that years JLA/JSA Crossover

JLA Vol 1 #59 December 1967

JLA Vol 1 #64 August 1968 & #65 September 1968 JLA/JSA Crossover 2 parts, "The Stormy Return of the Red Tornado" and "T.O. Morrow Kills the Justice League - Today!" (2 copies)

JLA Vol 1 #66 November 1968

JLA Vol 1 #68 December 1968

JLA Vol 1 #69 February 1969
This is still an important book for me. This was the first time I bought a vintage comic. I bought this at a time I was trying to fill out the current runs at the time of Legion of Super-Heroes Vol 4, Legionnaires Vol 1, and Justice League International Vol 1. in St. John's in 1998. This book was hanging above the register and I couldn't resist.

JLA Vol 1 #71 May 1969 (2 copies)

JLA Vol 1 #73 August 1969 Part 1 of 69s JLA/JSA Crossover

In the next day or so I will add another post with issues starting with one of my favourites JLA #75.Last edited by mikecole141; 01-01-2026 at 10:12 PM.

Continuing with Vol 1, the next issue is a favourite. I never owned this book as a child, it came out before I was born.
JLA Vol 1 #75 "In Each Man There is a Demon" Black Canary joins the JLA. JLA #75 is one of my favourite books because, while it wasn't my first JLA, in 1982 9 year old mike bought a DC Comics Blue Ribbon Best of DC Comics Digest #31 with the Justice League of America. In it was four stories of Justice League Inductions. The oldest story was Black Canary's I remember thinking why is their headquarters in a cave? Either way, it was probably my favourite story of the four.

I don't have this book in my collection anymore, but I do keep an eye out for it:
Attachment 210900
Now if I went in order these two books would come later in this post, but they are related to this digest so here are:
JLA Vol 1 #105 "Spectre in the Shadows" Elongated Man joins the JLA

JLA Vol 1 #106 "Wolf in the Fold" Red Tornado joins the JLA

That is three of the four books, I just need to add Zatanna's induction story to complete that "rainbow".
Other books I have from the 70s JLA run.
JLA Vol 1, #89 May 1971 "The Most Dangerous Dreams of All!"

JLA Vol 1, #101 September 1972 "The Hand that Shook the World" and JLA Vol 1, #102 October 1972 "...And One of Us Must Die!"
The 1972 JLA/JSA Crossover, these two books would lead in directly to #106.

JLA Vol 1, #107 October 1973 "Crisis on Earth-X", and JLA Vol1, #108 November 1973 "Thirteen Against The Earth"
1973's JLA/JSA 1973 Crossover, #107 is cover dated for October 1973, the month I was born. This crossover introduced DC's Quality Comics character acquisitions as the Freedom Fighters, heroes on an earth where World War II hasn't ended and the Nazis are winning. JLA #108 is unusual in it only has one member of the Justice League on the cover with Batman, as the Superman on the cover is from Earth-2's Justice Society of America along with Sandman and Dr. Fate, and the other four characters Uncle Sam, Black Condor, The Ray, and The Human Bomb are from this story's Earth-X

JLA Vol 1, #119 June 1975 "Winner Takes The Earth!"

JLA Vol 1, #121 August 1975 "The Hero Who Jinxed The Justice League" The cover of this issue showing the Justice League travelling to the planet Rann for the wedding of Adam Strange and Alanna, says the League travelled 25 trillion miles, which is equal to 4.25 light years. Rann in the comics was in orbit in the Alpha Centauri system roughly 4.25 light years away.

JLA Vol 1, #122 September 1975 "The Great Identity Crisis"

JLA Vol 1, #123 October 1975 "Where on Earth Am I?" 1975s JLA/JSA Crossover written by Cary Bates and Elliot S. Maggin. In this two parter, Elliot S. Maggin accompanies the JLA and JSA as the battle there villain Cary Bates?

JLA Vol 1, #125 December 1975 "The Men Who Sold Destruction!" Batman Villain in the book and no Batman to be seen.

JLA Vol 1, #128 March 1976 "Death-Visions of the Justice League"

JLA Vol 1, #138 January 1977 "Adam Strange Puppet of Time!" Fantastic Neal Adams cover.

That is it for this post, more to add in the coming days.
Thanks for checking out the collection, and i anybody wants to leave a comment tell me which is your favourite cover so far, or if you have a favourite Justice League cover that hasn't been shared here, tell me what it is and I will see if I have it to post in the next thread.Last edited by mikecole141; 01-02-2026 at 12:40 AM.

More JLA Goodness from Volume 1...
JLA Vol 1 #141 April 1977, Cover art by Rich Buckler & Frank Springer "No World Escapes the Manhunters"
JLA Vol 1 #148 November 1977, Cover art by Rich Buckler & Jack Abel "Crisis in Triplicate" Part 2 of '77s JLA/JSA Crossover with third team, and my favourites, the Legion of Super-Heroes.

JLA Vol 1 #154 May 1978, Cover art by Mike Kaluta "I'll Kill You In Your Dreams"

JLA Vol 1 #159 October 1978, Cover art by Rich Buckler "Crisis from Yesterday" & JLA Vol 1 #160 November 1978, Cover art by Rich Buckler "Crisis from Tomorrow" 1978s JLA/JSA Crossover guest starring characters from the "past" including Jonah Hex, The Viking Prince, Miss Liberty, The Black Pirate, and Enemy Ace.

JLA Vol 1 #166 May 1979, Cover art by Ross Andru "The Long Way Home", JLA Vol 1 #167 June 1979, Cover art Dick Dillin "The League That Defeated Itself", JLA Vol #168 July 1979 Cover art by Dick Dillin "The Last Great Switcharoo"
This story was later used as an important plot point of 2004s "Identity Crisis" by Brad Meltzer. I wasn't a huge fan of Identity Crisis, I didn't like the way they handled the heroes, the needless deaths in the book, or some changes to certain characters that were not necessary and only done to make the story darker.

JLA Vol 1 #171 October 1979, Cover art by Dick Dillin "The Murderer Among Us: Crisis Above Earth-One!" JLA Vol 1 #172 November 1979, Cover art by Dick Giordano "I Accuse..." 1979s JLA/JSA Crossover, in the first issue the Golden Age hero, the original, Mr. Terrific Terry Sloane in murdered aboard the Justice League's Satellite Headquarters during their annual meetup of both teams, and all signs point to one of them being the murderer. This story allows for the creation of the second Mr. Terrific Michael Holt in 1997.

JLA Vol 1 #179 June 1980, Cover art by Jim Starlin "The Siren Song of the Satin Satan" Firestorm joins the Justice League of America. Firestorm was one off my favourite characters in the '80s through his own book and appearances in JLA, as well as his being added to "The Legendary Super Powers Team" cartoon the continuation of Super Friends.

JLA Vol 1 #181 August 1980, Cover art by Ross Andru "The Stellar Crimes of the Star-Tsar" Green Arrow quits the team!

JLA Vol 1 #195 October 1981, "Targets of Two Worlds", JLA Vol1 #196 November 1981, "Countdown to Crisis", JLA Vol 1 #197 December 1981 "Crisis in Limbo" 1981s JLA/JSA Crossover has a new version of the Secret Society of Super Villains led by The Ultra-Humanite in his first appearance in his albino gorilla form.
Cover art for all three issues by THE G.O.A.T.! George Pérez. I remember seeing the cover for #195 on the shelf and thinking it was the best cover ever!

JLA Vol 1 #199 February 1982, Cover art by Ross Andru and Romeo Tanghal "Grand Canyon Showdown" Finale of a two-parter versus The Time Commander, members of the League find themselves thrown back in time without their memories and teaming with Jonah Hex again, along with Cinnamon, Scalphunter, and Bat Lash.

Hopefully be back in a day or two to continue on starting with issue #200.
Thanks for checking out the books, if anybody wants to share their favourite cover from this bunch, or any that came before, leave a message below.Last edited by mikecole141; 01-08-2026 at 11:09 PM.
