PM Pruning, PM Space Increase

In order to make SCF run smoother I will be turning on a PM pruner on 1 Jan, 2008. This system will automatically:

• Delete Sent PMs that are older than 7 Days old
• Delete all other PMs that are older than 90 Days old

The SCF database is huge and a large part of the waste is PMs that are old. This will effect all users and even the staff is not immune to this. This will reduce the database considerably making it more stable and SCF a little faster.

Did you do this early? I guess it is 01/01/08 somewhere in the world right now.

I make it a habit to clean out all trader,help desk, and Pm's older than a week already, both on the sent side and in.

so it will be impossible to keep a sent pm longer than a week?? just dont get these kinds of things, lol.....we are "given" or "allowed" a certain amount of PM space....some get more for certain memberships, some dont....but we all have a limit....so why does what we do with that limit matter?? there ARE relative PMs that are older than 90 days (fantasy related stuff, season long contests, etc) and definately sent PMs that are relative more than 7 days (trades dont even get finished in 7 days)

gee thanks for the warning... I had old PMs that I would have tried to save the contents of before this happened... it's still 2007 here in the US... not cool... really not cool...

If PM space didn't take up 50% of the database I wouldn't be doing this. But because the vast majority of users do not clean out their PM space I am forced to do this. If you have important PMs simply download them or save them to your computer.

I will increase the sent PM time frame to 21 days.

Doesn't look like it since I lost all my PM's that were older than a month. I only have 2 messages in the inbox and one was an automatic message. If it was keeping stuff old as 90 days then I should have more than just 2.

i too thought this might cause trouble just for record keeping.... but then thought about a good way to save them automatically. one easy way to try to save your pm's is to set your options to e-mail you anytime you get a PM. then you can at least keep a copy of it in your e-mail. won't really help for sent pm's but hey it's a decent idea i think.

Also, at the bottom, right of your Inbox or sent Items you will see:

Download all Private Messages as:
XML | CSV | Text

This allows you to download ALL of your PMs is three different formats. Give it a try!
