Patrick Roy Retirement
I am hearing news reports that Roy is holding a press conference tomorow to announce his retirement. I knew it was coming, but would have liked to see him keep on playing.
I wonder what moves the Avalanche will make in the off season... I am not sure Aebischer is ready and Forsberg may not be coming back :(

Don't take an athlete's word that he's retiring.
Michael Jordan's retired several times over.
I expect Jordan to be back playing again in a few years.
Nowadays, you can not trust what a player says.
Once the player is out in the real world, and sees that you can't make $150,000 a day, he'll come back into his particular sport.
I'd bet Roy returns within 1-3 years....much like Lemieux.

Well, I wish these players would just play until they can't play anymore and stop all the drama. I wouldnt be surprised if Jordan was playing next season. I am not sure if Roy could come back after a couple years off, but who knows.

That will be a huge blow to the Avs if they lose Roy. One of the greatest goaltenders ever.

THE greatest goalie ever. Hard to believe he would quit after going down how he did against my Wild.

He should have retired at least 2 years ago... the Lanche will be better off without him.

It's a huge loss for hockey, as he was the greatest goaltender ever to play, but this just gives guys like Brodeur, Giguere, etc. to have a chance at larger stardom. He certainly will not be forgotten.

The Avs will be a lot WORSE without Roy. He gets them to the playoffs every year and they really don't have another goalie to fill in.

and as long as he is in uniform you will never know who can step up and get the job done. Put him on the staff and let him teach young goalies.

I say good riddance! Now Brodeur will get his due as the best in the game today. Roy was great in his time, but it has passed. He is now just very, very good - so I'm genuinely glad to see him retire while people will still miss him.
