The 29th National Trip and Card Show

The 29th National Sports Collectors Convention is fast approaching and just under 4 months away. The show will be held at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center Chicago (Rosemont IL) between July 30-August 3, 2008.

Sports Card Forum is not your ordinary sports card community and we are not simply going to show up. We will be there in full force!

First, we will be manning our Sports Card Forum booth in the corporate area. This has already been reserved. We will have a big screen TV showcasing the site and several lap tops for collectors to sign up with the site. We plan on giving away several hundred team/player packs and other goodies at the event to draw in new SCF members. Soon I will post a message with the details if you wish to donate some cards. Please read Don's thread on what we need here.

Second, we will be renting 1-2 RVs and doing a road trip. We will start with a few people at two locations to be determined and then pick up collectors on the way. We will have room for up to 10 collectors per RV. So, SCF and our sponsors will pay for you transportation to the show and your hotel room for the duration of the show (3 nights).

Third, we will be producing a DVD documenting the road trip and show. This is the first documentary/realty show of its kind. We will film the few days of travel on the RV and upload podcasts each day to SCF, The national website, YouTube, etc. We will make the format available to be viewed online or on your portable device (i.e. iPod, Zune, etc). I will be creating a page on SCF so members can track our voyage much like "where is Santa" during Christmas. At the end of the road trip and card show we will produce a DVD and offer it to the members that could not attend. It will show the fun we have on the RV, our stops to collectors houses to pick them up and do some trading, and as much of the actual show as we can pack into a DVD.

Finally, and most important, SCF (and hopefully some sponsors) will fund 1-3 all expenses paid to The National. This will cover airfare and hotel room. Also, one lucky member will get $500 spending cash. I'm working on the criteria for selecting a member. It will come in the form of a contest, but will only be available to our senior most members that have been on SCF consistently and have contributed to the success of the site. More to follow on this!

As you can see I hope to bring 25 members to the show by RV and airfare and also see a few hundred more that will attend on their own. I also hope to make this an annual event that we do every year and possible even bring this great time to other shows in the future.

If you plan on attending I highly recommend you purchase your tickets in advanced, especially the premium versions as they are limited. Stay tuned for more announcements related to the show!

Sounds great, my trip to Chicago has been planned since beginning of this year, so I will certainly take a visit to the SCF booth ! I'm looking forward to it !

Sounds like it will be a great time, I only live 4hours from Chicago, but I probably won't be able to go. I'm in college and need all the money I can get, I would blow way too much if I went, lol.

I'm sorry to say due to the lack of sponsorship and the high cost of this event we will not be having this contest this year.
