BB Card Software - Anyone know a good one?

I need a little help here. I am in desperate need of a Basball Card tracking software. Beckett's dumped theirs a few years ago and went online - it's nice but you can't get the reports I want. I had a different brand about 7 years ago and it too went down the tubes. I am a set builder so that is how I sort my cards. Most people only want specific players in trade. It's seriouly time consuming either going through each file/box of cards and looking for those specific players in each set. What I want the software to be able to do is:

    1. have the cards pre-loaded into the program (with updates for newer sets) - if I wanted to type each of the cards/sets into the program, I'd write my own Access Database...
    2. be able to run reports by set/player/value/etc
    3. have updates available including prices (either by beckett's or tuff stuff)

    Any suggestions???

I have been using Ablesoft The Card Collector for many years. They quit giving out udates 4-5 years ago but I still use the program. When ever I start a collection for after 1999 I just use the program and type in the set I am working on. Others I have seen use excel. Hope this helps.

I use C2Pro. They're still working on an update so the checklists only go to like 2000, but it's the best I've found out there so far. I'm a set builder too and it has lots of advantages even if I have to do some typing.

Thanks all for the info - especially singledad (I used to be one myself for a few years) for all the feedback and links.
juzthavinfun - I used to use the same software but it kept crashing (I think I had too large of a database). I found it online again - another company bought the rights to the software and they have improved it and sell updates again. I think I'm going to order the newest version and try it again - 30 day guarantee!!!

Redzfan11, Let me know how you like the new updated version please. I just noticed I still have my old 2.0 version of the same program and now I am wondering if it is worth upgrading. Thanks for any info you can give me. Also, are you sending for the CD or just using the download version.

    Thanks again

    Mike

Redzfan11 Thanks for letting me know that somebody bought them out and I just ordered the newest version. I have collector 6.0 so it only cost 21 dollars.

What exactly do these things do? I have heard of them but I am not familiar with them.

Mike - I can't find my older versions (might have thrown them away) and I have gotten a new computer in the last year, so I ordered the CD. For the updates, I'll order via the internet updates. I'll let you know how it is. I really liked many of the features of version 5.0 so I'm looking forward to see the changes and improvements.

juzthavinfun - no problem. I'm sure it will save you a lot of typing for all the newer sets. In their reply to my email, it's their goal to have every card ever made cataloged in their database. That impressed me because that is what was wrong with the last version I had - the database was too large...

Mortigan - If you've never used a database program for your collection, I would highly recommend it. Being a set builder as well, it's a great tool for tracking what you have and what you need. Also, since you, like me, file your cards by sets, finding cards of a specific player (when making trades on scf) is as easy as a click of the button. It does take a bit of time to input your cards into the database, but to me, it's worth the time it saves in the end. I'm still playing catch-up with trades from two weekends ago on my website. I'm sure with the software, I can run a report and link it to my webpage instead of retyping all of my updates. Last of all, if you have a high $$$ collection, it's a great tool if you want to insure your collection - this program uses Tuff Stuff, but at least it gives you a general ballpark of what your collection is worth...

I noticed The Card Collector has a new owner also. The question is how far behind are they in their sets? I know on the page they are asking people to help by entering sets for them. I could see doing that if they gave you discount on the software or something, but why do their work for them for free for them to make a profit off you?
