I love how it has become a bad thing to vote for a candidate that you feel will represent the common man. The USA is well on its way to socialism.

What President in the past was the common man? Please point this individual out to me.

I'm not sure of what your definition of common is, but mine is someone who cared primarily for the common man, the middle majority of this country.
George Washington, land surveyor from Virginia
Thomas Jefferson, encouraged citizens to remain highly independent of governance
Andrew Jackson, tough for anyone to saw this guy wasn't a common man
Harry Truman, zero college
Just a few. Elitism is a somewhat new phenomenon.
And it should be noted that I said, "represent the common man."

There is a difference from caring about the common man and being one. Those President you pointed out were all well read at the least. Asking our leaders to be informed about the issues is a minimum.

Once again, I said "represent the common man." So, yeah. Represent. Represent. Represent.
If you're asking me to find a president who wasn't well read, that's impossible. Which also proves my point George W Bush wasn't stupid. You can't be dumb and become the leader of the free world.
But a president who wishes to raise taxes and expand government is telling you that he, in all his glory, knows how to use your money better than you. If you're ok with that, then we just have different viewpoints. You believe that ignorance is bliss. I believe in the freedom to succeed as well as fail.
And Andrew Jackson, with no formal education and orphaned at 14, could very easily be argued to be as common as you and me.

Ok I see your point. Andrew Jackson was well-educated enough to be a lawyer and a judge in the western frontiers in his early career. I do not believe he was a common man. Sarah Palin did not know current issues. This is wrong if you want to be next in line to be the president. Personally, I do not think it is healthy for any political party to move to canidates that do not know required things to govern. It is irresponsible.

not that those guys weren't going along with the times, and that they didn't accomplish some pretty important things for this country, but i find it a little humorous that 3 of the 4 presidents you named who stood up for the common man were also slave owners....thomas jefferson being one of the largest slave owners in Virginia in his day

Like I say, I only ask for someone to represent my interests. That is the purpose of voting. If people want to call that narcissism, then they can just be wrong.
