Jindal speech is getting criticized by Republicans also

I do think Jindal could be a viable Republican candidate, but I do not go along with his beliefs. He is getting criticized by Fox news also. The main issue that I had with the speech was the logic. He pointed to all the great things America has done (Go to the moon, freeing the slaves, and other things). The issue I have with this statement is the GOVERNMENT did all of them. How can you point to all the great things that our governement did and then say governement is bad? I would just like your guys thoughts. Here is a link to an article with the youtube video from Fox.

By pointing to the many more things they've done wrong. Government is the most ineffective and inefficient organization...private sector can do most of the same things (they obviously can't pass laws, etc) better and at a much lower cost.

As for the speech, those FoxNews panelists were criticizing his delivery, not the content...frankly, I don't care if my President speaks well as long as he knows what he is doing and I think you'll agree with me on that. Unfortunately, too many people are easily swayed by a smooth talker.

As for the conservative bloggers, I'm not sure what "They wanted a full-throated response to Obama and expected and/or wanted more" means...a full-throated response?

Any "conservative" who didn't like Jindal's speech because of the content and not just the delivery, I would question if they really are conservative. I haven't seen many speeches recently that have exemplified the original tenets of Conservatism like Jindal's.

I agree the governement has done some bad things, but all the cultural changes have come from the government. I may be ignorant of it, but what has big business done to change lives in such a dramatic way? I am just wondering.

Oh not much, just most of the inventions that have made our lives easier as well as making them available to the masses, along with most major medical advancements. Corporations haven't forced cultural changes because industry has only an indirect effect on culture. But as for products, goods, techonological advancement, medical R&D, etc, etc, etc, the private sector leads the way.

I agree with that private business expands the technology, but the majority of time the basic research is done by the government. I was thinking about it, but a good example of your point would be Edison. I would argue though that he is the exception, not the rule.

How so on the basic research done by the gov? Most companies that provide us with the technology have their own R&D depts who do all the work. And a lot of the government research is funding or tax breaks to corporations for doing the research, which a lot of would be done anyway...as with energy alternatives. Government is providing tax breaks and incentives to do the research for better energy alternatives, but that research would be done anyway because the market is calling for it. I won't deny the government does actually do some research for products that corporations build on, but I doubt it's anywhere near a majority.

Ok I will give a few examples. The internet (sorry Al), antibiotics, space exploration, and nuclear power. Private businesses have expanded just these few innovations emensely.
