I guess Frank Viola stole my cards ? lol
I sent him 2 different 1985 Topps cards to sign (regular and all star)
Today among a great # of successes I got a yellow postcard back saying if I want my cards back I need to make a donation to his foundation. They could have sent my cards back in the SASE and included this note.
Not a real cool thing to do!

i'm kind of shocked you didnt make a donation. I do it with every TTM I send, I thought everyone did, it's just the decent thing to do...They are taking the time to sign, why not donate to their foundation?

#1 Sorry you are shocked
#2 I had no idea he had a foundation. Had I known prior to sending I probably would have donated assuming the foundation was not religion based.
#3 In the time ( they took to put their own stamp (at their own cost) on that card and mail it to me, they could have put that card along with my unsigned cards back into the SASE that I paid for and given me the choice instead of holding my cards hostage.

He'll sign and inscribe anything for $5. It's one of the best "deals" in this hobby right now. He had been a terrible signer before, as well, so get him while the gettin' is good. :)

Well, I assume, when guys send back letters saying i need a donation to my foundation that you were sending to the foundation itself is all. When I send to a foundation address i always throw some cash in, is what i meant, sorry i should have specified.

No, I sent to a home address posted on one of the sites. Of course if I was sending to a foundation I would have donated and I don't think $5 is asking too much. Knowing he'd sign for that I have a pile of rookies I'd have sent him $50 to get 10 of them signed. It is just the point of not returning my cards and holding them hostage pending a donation that has me irked. Return them and then let me decide if I want to make the donation.

Send the card back asking him to return your cards unsigned and see what happens.

No, I am not going to waste my time spending another 42 cents on 2 nickel cards. I guess when you send 120+ requests out you are going to get 2-3 responses that leave a bad taste in your mouth. Lesson learned regarding Mr. Viola. On to the hundreds of other great signers.....

5 bucks is a deal. Send the money if you want it. check out www.signingshotline and see what he charges at a show... Bet it is not five bucks.
ANYWAY, here is a rant, why do people send to guys that you kinda want? I wouldnt send to Garret Anderson or grady sizemore, they never played for my hometeam phillies. If you only kinda want the autograph, dont waste a guys time that signs for the REAL fans of his. I never understand why people just send something to everyone on a success list, but that is me
