OFFICIAL: LA Kings Discussion Thread
Decided we needed one of these...not like many people will post on it aside from me, CSSports and gretzky99 (when back from his move)
Very excited to see what the kings do this season. A lots been discussed. Will the kings go after gabby or kovie? Who will they trade off?
Here's how I see the locks for next years team
Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frolov-Stoll-Purcell
Moller-Handzus-Simmonds
Ivanans-Richardson-?
Doughty-O'Donnell
Johnson-Greene
Quincey-?
Quick
Ersberg
Will be interesting to see what goes down at D. Will the kings move gauthier and/or preissing? Who will be the 6th man? Will Hickey or teubert make the team?Last edited by cnshockey; 05-25-2009 at 01:16 AM.

I would like to see the lines like this:
Brown-Kopitar-Purcell
Frolov-Stoll-Williams
Moller-Handzus-Simmonds
Ivanans-Richardson/Boyle/Lewis-Cliche/Clune
The 4th line is a toss up....but I dont see Richardson out there over Boyle or Lewis....
Doughty-Quincey
Johnson-(Teubert or Hickey)
Greene-O'Donnell (last year...probably in the NHL and will take #6 spot)
Preissing is out....or plays forever in the AHL....Gauthier should be gone too - worthless out these...would love to see Teubert and/or Hickey make the team - They already show ready for the NHL...and I love Teubert's attitude
Quick
Ersberg
Bernier on emergency basis....but would like to see him up a couple times next season....give him a taste....and see how he reacts to it...
Plenty of talk about trading for a top 3 scorer....but at what expense???
Gabby seems to be injury-prone lately and I doubt Atl want to trade Kovy....
I just hope they get someone who is good NOW.....Kings are famous for trying to pick up someone who WAS good in hopes to revive their career (See Fuhr, Blake, Calder, Bure, Nagy, the list goes on and on) - used to call Dave Talylor (when he was GM) Dumpster Dave.....

not sure if purcell is cut out as a 1st line guy. i think williams would benfit more from playing with kopi. D i agree on you with. i dont like the pairings though. greene and o'donnell would cause trouble. i think sean and drew works. we'll see. i think if we can get kovie then we HAVE to do it. i would love to see frolov traded with bernier and maybe boyle/purcell/lewis?
what about coach/gm? i want deano and murray gone. make lucky luuuuuuuuuuuuc the GM and then hire ted nolan as coach. sounds like a plan to me

That my favorite coach period besides Scotty Bowman. Have to love a coach that can get players to back him up against the superstar goalie. Best of luck on landing him.

I dont think the Kings need Defense....I think they need an elite goal scorer.....one of the main reasons they lost 20+ games by one goal....
Compare these two goalies....and you will see what a legitimate goal scorer can do for a team.....
Jon Quick LOS 44 41 2495 21 18 2 6 103 2.48 1200 1097 .914 4
Marc-Andre Fleury PIT 62 61 3641 35 18 7 5 162 2.67 1850 1688 .912 4
Cam Ward CAR 68 68 3928 39 23 5 10 160 2.44 1901 1741 .916 6
Granted Fleury/Ward played more games, they did not play any better than QUick yet FleuryWard are battling it out in the Conference Finals - which also does not show spetacular stats this playoffs....
Cam Ward CAR 17 17 1043 8 9 0 2 46 2.65 552 506 .917 2
Marc-Andre Fleury PIT 16 16 995 11 5 0 1 45 2.71 460 415 .902 0
All I am saying is the Kings need a Goal Scorer who will help win some of the 1 goal games....I think I heard Kings were in over 45 1 goal games this season...thats a lot of close played games...just lost most of them
----------------------------------------------
and just because this is a Kings thread - LOL
Last Season showed a lot of promise....Stats were MUCH better...but goals were not...
Goals for = 202 - 27th in the League
Assists = 336 - 29th
GFA = 2.42 - 27th
Shots on Goal = 2383 - 17th
Shooting % = 8.5% - 27th
GA = 226 - 11th
GAA = 2.71 - 11th
Save% = .902 - 19th (We blame Labarbera for this one)
Shutouts = 6 - T11th (Quick had 4 in 1/2 season)
Saves = 2075 - 16th least amount
Shots against = 2301 - 4th least amount
Penalty Kill = 82.8% - 7th
Power Play = 19.2% - 14th
Face off % = 52.0% - 4th
So basically the Kings made HUGE improvements in all defense/goalie stats from the previous 5 years....just did not get the scoring they needed....

How are the Kings set cap wise?
