Never been so happy to give away cards

I just got back from the annual L'Arche Football Preview Banquet.

    http://blog.al.com/press-register-sp..._auburn_a.html

L'arche runs group homes for adult retarded citizens. They hold a silent auction during the dinner. They had the usual stuff from local events (tshirts and hats from the LPGA tournament, the local marathon, GMAC Bowl, etc), autos from local players (Jake Peavy ball, et al), and they also had auto'd footballs from Nick Saban, Gene Chizick and Houston Nutt, and a game-used GMAC Bowl football signed by Byron Leftwich (presumably a ball he threw during one of the GMAC Bowls he played in).

Anyway, I donated a 2008 A&G set (with 50 state inserts), as well as a UD Masterpieces football and baseball "short sets" (I can't finish my first set of sp, much less a second). I put those together since they were less than 200 cards combined. I was horribly embarrased when I dropped it off earlier this week and noticed it was missing a card. I had to pull one out of my personal set, but I'll get a replacement (eventually). I had given Patrick White's dad a SAGE HIT rc to get his son to sign, but he'd forgotten about it (so had I) and he tried to mail it to me earlier this week, but it didn't make it in time. It'll go in next year's stack.

Anyway, the UD Masterpieces ended up selling for $55. This dude and this older lady (some doctor's wife, I think) ended up fighting over the A&G set and it ended up going for $90. I figured it was for her grandson or something, heck no she wanted it.

That's a ton better than I coulda done on ebay and donating the money. I was very pleased.

And the big prizes were the cruise for 2 that someone bid $650 on, the 2 auburn fb tix for a few hundred bucks. The Saban football went for almost $300,a nd the Nutt went for almost $200. Chizick's ball went for *snicker* $80.

I don't know; I'll have to check. I think he played here twice when he was at Marshall.
