    Nolan Ryan Auto

I recently received a Nolan Ryan autographed card. I sent him a phot and he sent it back with a signed card c/o the Rangers. It's obviously a signature and not a preprint, but I've read that he uses an autopen a lot.

I've attached a scan of the auto...any comments (autopen or real?)

    Thanks

Does not look real in scan. I would agree with last post most likely autopen.

Just curious what you see from the auto that would lead you to say autopen. I'd like to get better at picking those things up.

Autopens typically have uniform thickness throughout the signature. The ink width doesn't vary at all. There are often blots of ink at the beginning and/or end of the words as well where the pen pressed down onto the card and bleeds a little extra ink. The beginning of the "R" in "Ryan" on that card is a good example of that. The pen stroke also stops abruptly at the end of each word instead of trailing off like it would if the signers hands moved off of the card.
