    okay...don't advertise...I won't show up....

I was reading the Sunday Paper and noticed a little ad under the "garage sales / flea markets" section:

Jackson Conference Center (formerly Holiday Inn) Coin Show, Sunday, 9 to 3.

I'm NOT into coin collecting and decided to pass on this.

I called the Conference Center today to talk about arranging Sports Card Shows sometime in the future and was asked why I didn't attend the one on Sunday.

Of course I explained that the show was advertised as a coin show and NOT a card show.

The manager politely informed me that while it was called a Coin Show there were numerous sports cards and memorabilia vendors. She also said the turn-out was poor. the title says...DON'T ADVERTISE....I won't show up.

Meaning OP would have went if he/she knew there would have been some card action going on; either to sell or buy.

But it sounds like poor advertisment from the manager, or whoever ran and organized the thing.

And the poor turnout was their own fault because all it said was "Coin Show". If card collectors/dealers/buyers/sellers knew (other than the few card people that somewhow knew).

The manager of the thing should have maybe spent a little more $$$ for another line in the newspaper stating it's more than just a coin a show bla bla bla, get the picture.

But if they HAD advertised I would have been a vendor...and have quite a few friends that would have been vendors.

Hope they learned their lesson..but I doubt it.

Sadly, I'm not surprised at this.
Advertising in the classifieds is not that expensive.
At the shows my partners and I run, we advertise in at least 6 local papers, in addition to all the free advertising available online.
There is no excuse for not trying.
Wonder how many of these "promoters" say that the hobby is dying, when it is their own fault for being so cheap?
