That the National Hockey League would turn to Jerry Reinsdorf to rescue the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes is not surprising: He has a home in the Phoenix area, business ties to the City of Glendale, where the Coyotes play, and, of most importance, a reputation as one of the shrewdest franchise operators in sports.

He has won seven championships, acquired two new playing facilities and consistently made money for his partners during his tenure as chairman of the White Sox and Bulls.
