    I know the Standout sig is an insert, but it is the only auto set in that product. Why would that not be considered a true rookie auto? Because its not a base card?

    No, card companies make the True Rookies either base cards or auto cards. So in that set, the rookies were obviously base cards, since that auto is an insert.
