Did they make up that charge just for him? That is pretty ridiculous. If he got something based on who he was supposed to be, I can see some kind of fraud charges...but just for lying about who he was, that's not a crime. Pretty sleazy and some definite karma coming his way for it, but not illegal.

I believe he was getting special treatment everywhere. lIke food, drinks, activities and stuff like that using a medal that he never won.

if he was wearing military decorations that were not earned, that is illegal and he can be tried by the military

He can have the free food and drink. The guy did a lot with his false title, like establishing the Colorado Veterans Alliance, reaching out to unite veterans, etc.

You are missing the main point. All he did and got was because he said he won a medal and people looked at him as a hero and wanted to help. So he was lying to all of them to get support and benefits.

I'll tell you what you do with scumbags like that...you compel them to become actual vets. That is, drag their sorry butts to Iraq and duct-tape them to the barrel of a tank as it rolls into an insurgent-infested ghetto.
