    Obama wants $250 for seniors

    Obama wants $250 for seniors

President Obama is calling on Congress to send another $250 payment to 57 million seniors and other Americans to stem the economic strain.

Congress approved $250 emergency payments as part of the $787 billion economic recovery act that lawmakers passed in February.

"Even as we seek to bring about recovery, we must act on behalf of those hardest hit by this recession," Obama said in a statement Wednesday. "That is why I am announcing my support for an additional $250 in emergency recovery assistance to seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities to help them make it through these difficult times."

The measure would cost $13 billion over 10 years, according to White House estimates.

How ignorantly pointless...$250 checks aren't going to do anything except waste another $13 billion.

Maybe i'm missing something, but it seems like these are the people that would be least effected by the economy. Did the government send them less money because of the recession??? no. Arent Vets and Seniors the two groups that he has angered the most lately? is he just trying to gain support from them? This just doesnt make any sense. Hardest Hit? How?? Emergency Assistance?? seriously, someone tell me the opposing view. what is this?

I'm not even considering who it was sent to, just the amount. Really, what is $250 going to do? Pay half a month's rent (maybe), buy a couple more prescriptions, a month's worth of groceries (maybe)...how much actual help is that? If $250 is the difference in making it and not, I've got news for ya, next month, you'll be right back in the same boat...and all at the expense of $13 billion. Obama is getting in the bad habit of doing something just to make it look like he's doing something and usually it ends up doing more harm than good.

right. i hadnt even gotten to processing that yet. It is so pointless and stupid on so many levels. I was just trying to find out how they were rationalizing it. Maybe we have gotten to the point where they dont have to rationalize anything anymore. Dont even present and argument, just do whatever they want.

All it will take is a couple of seniors talking on CNN about how that little bit helped them so much and how thankful they are. It will be another "victory" for this administration

While I agree that this is pointless and a waste of money out of curiousity did you all think the same about the President Bush refunds? I think they were $300-$600 if my memory serves

depending on number of kids, some people got over $1000. His were also talked about as "economic stimulus" thus expecting people to spend that money. Obama seems to be pushing this as though is will help them through the hard times.
