Obama signs $7.5 billion Pakistan aid bill
Obama signs $7.5 billion Pakistan aid bill
President Barack Obama signed legislation Thursday providing an additional $7.5 billion in assistance to the Pakistani government.
"This law is the tangible manifestation of broad support for Pakistan in the U.S.," the White House said in a written statement.
The act bolsters a partnership "based on a shared commitment to improving the living conditions of the people of Pakistan through sustainable economic development, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, and combating the extremism that threatens Pakistan and the United States," it said.
I don't agree or disagree with providing aid to Pakistan, I haven't paid enough attention to form an educated opinion on that. My question is how do we give aid with borrowed money? It's like your friend comes to you and asks you to borrow some money, he's in a really tight spot, so you lend him some cash. Then the next day, you see him giving money to someone else saying he wants to help them out...Or shouldn't we at least acknowledge that China gave us the money in the first place, so it's kinda from both of us?

I cant beleive I look at 7.5 Billion as nothing these days. No big deal in comparison to our recent spending. Insane.

I've never understood this myself and it seems like something both parties do while in office. Right now just doesn't seem to be a great time to be providing aid to other countries when the U.S. has its own issues.

Know how you catch Bib Ladin and end the Taliban? Tell Pakistan that all aide is cut off. It will resume when Bid Ladin is found and the Taliban is a non factor. I have a feeling that Bin Ladin would turn up and thousands of Taliban would be dead within a week. To bad Bush and Obama have no spine in this area.
