    Taking the "gloss" off ...

I think I read on here before that you should rub powder on cards to take off the gloss before sending ...

Any advice here? Doesn't that make the card smell like the powder? Is there something else you could use?

    Just curious.

    Thanks

You can use many things including baby powder (to my recollection if you do it right it does not smell). I am a fan of gently using a white pencil eraser, which is portable and takes the gloss off nicely.

the pencil is good for ttm and for just going for one guy but at games and practices where guys come and run over out of the blue or multiple guys at once come over its hard to rub them all down so thats when you would want to use the powder.

I use the mechanical eraser...the white erasers. They work great. Quick and easy and little mess...just a few eraser shavings.

Bob...this is why you always rub down all of your cards before going to get them signed. When I go to a game and get autos I rub down all my cards with the eraser, put them in a sketch book, and get who I need when I need without the delay of rubbing down at a game.
I collect NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, NY Knicks, and NJ Nets. I am willing to trade. PM me if you have any cards signed by players from these teams.

Working on collecting all living New York Giants (football) and New York Yankees. The question is which team drives me nuts first!!!

I also prefer the eraser. I never hear dof powder untill this site. I picked up some and tried but don't care for the mess or smell. With a quality eraser and some finess I never have an issue, nor does the card show any unwanted marks from the eraser.

I havn't tried, but I was thinking baking powder or baking soda will do the same job as baby powder considering they are pretty much the same consistency and chemical compounds. The only difference would be no smell. Just a thought.
