After the Thrashers amazing shootout win against the Canucks, they had another home contest against the division rival Tampa Bay Lightning.
The game was sure to be tough, as the Lightning are led by Vincent Lecavalier and Matin St. Louis.
The first period was nothing unusual, as the Thrashers feel behind 1-0 as S. Eminger (TB) scored his 3rd goal at 2:48 in the game on the Tampa Bay powerplay. The remainder of the first period was nothing but boos coming from the home crowd because of the poor play and concentration by the home team Thrashers.
The second period began and continued much like the first, with no scoring until 16:20 in the period when M. St. Louis (TB) scored his 14th goal of the season.
Period 3 rolled around with the Thrashers hoping to mount a comeback and fighting from a 2 goal hole. However, at 1:00 in the third, on the Tampa Bay powerplay, M. St. Louis (TB) scored his second goal of the game, 15th on a the season, giving the Lightning a 3-0 lead with almost an entire third period to play. Later in the period, R. Malone (TB) scored at 18:16 giving him his 10th goal on the season. With only a minute and some change left in the game, it looked as if the Thrashers were going to be shut out 4-0 at home.
Then, with only :22 left in the game, E. Christensen (ATL) scored his 2nd goal of the season, pulling the Thrashers within 3 goals. Needless to say, the Thrashers didng score 3 more to tie the game and send it into overtime.
