In 1990 the Edmonton Oilers were on there way to their fifth Stanley Cup win in seven years. But in the 2nd game of the playoffs on April 6th they faced off against against some crazy Jets fan. I guess the 7 to 5 victory for the Jets in game one boosted their confidence because the Jets fans entered the Coliseum with painted faces and Jets flags draped over there shoulders like they were Superman while chanting: "We're number one! We're number one!".
The Jets scored two goals in 1st period, the Oilers did not get on to the scoreboard until the 3rd period. At the end of regulation the game was tied 2 to 2. In overtime Mark Lamb scored the winner.
The Molson Cup 3 Stars were:
#1 - Mark Lamb
#2 - Brent Ashton
#3 - Bill Ranford
After the game was over those Jets fans were still chanting but there cries had changed to: "We had more fun! We had more fun!" The Oilers would go on to win the series in 7 games and eventually the Stanley Cup.
What was one of your most memorable games?
