This is very near and dear to me. I lost my best friend, Jen, in July of 1998, right before I started my senior year of high school. In my 12th grade German class, we had an assignment to write a poem about anything we wanted, I chose to write about Jen. That day, reading that poem (in German) and feeling the tears roll down my face was a task in and of itself. Jen was a great girl, with alot of potential. We used to sit and watch races together, me in my Dale Earnhardt hat and her telling me why Rusty was so much better! Even better were Sundays watching my beloved Skins up against her sad, sorry Eagles LOL. I would give so much to have her back. I have never forgotten Jen, nor will I ever. I had previously published this poem as anonymous. This is the first time I am taking any sort or recognition for this work.
JENNIFER ANN
The theme of my story, like the color of my pen
Is the dark and horrid of the black, remaining within
Best hidden under shades of red and white
Which saddens my heart and shows of my fright
The plot of my story, though hard to be told
Tells of my friend, who wasn't yet old
The fate of the wreckage on Independence eve
Thus told upon me, too sick to believe
The fact is was true, though I wish it were false
The thought in me lingers, still hoping for pulse
Now that she's gone, there's not much to say
Of the long road it's been since Independence Day
In loving memory,
Jennifer Ann Thrash
