Breaking even.

A few days ago I bought some packs of Upper Deck hockey cards. That night I undertook to open two packs and see what I had in the six card packs. I like to take the cards out one at a time and study them and read the back, sometimes I even look them up in Beckett's. It's more fun to look at each card one at a time. I soon saw that I had six cards on the desk in front of me, and still one in the pack! What ever, seven cards in a six card pack!! What good luck, I had come out on top for a change.

It was November 28, 2011, and my grandaughter and I had just left her doctors office at the Childrens Hospital of Michigan. I held the door open and she guided her wheelchair into the hallway. We could see a lot of people at the end of the hall near the main lobby. I should explain that my 18 year old grand daughter had entered the hospital in February of 2011 for surgery on her legs, this should have been a 10 day stay and then recovery and re-hab. If a tree falls in the forrest, and no one was there to hear it, did it make a sound? If you read part one of this story you know that long ago in the process of being educated, I joined my high school baseball team. The fact that I lacked talent and ability did not detour my enthusiasm. One day our team was out on the field warming up before a game. It was early, the other team had not arrived as yet. School was still in class, so no spectators were at the field, only our team. It was batting practice

As a teenager in high school I was very lucky to be a small part of a very good baseball team. Due to an abundance of uniforms I got a spot on the team. I got to take a few "at bats" and play some in the outfield. My biggest contribution to the effort was to help make sure our equipment got back on the bus after the game. Whatever! I was given a chance to play a little and I loved it. One day I was in my usual good seat in the dugout watching our team in the field. The other team had runners

The things we remember best are the things that we don't expect. If we expect something to happen and it happens we call that normal, and we forget about it. I remember a day very well when something I did not expect happened. It was July 15, 1973 and it was a very nice day, not too hot, just right, sunny, good day to enjoy the outdoors. My plan did not involve enjoyment, it was to cut the lawn. Every Saturday I had a date with my grass and my wife made sure I kept it. This day I went out to the
