BVG or PSA

Which Grading company should i send some vintage cards to be graded to? PSA seems really expensive to use plus you have to join their club. BVG is less expensive. Which would sell better? please help

My recommendation is SGC if you don't want to join PSA.

I disagree with the above post. Here is what Ive noticed with PSA- when they grade vintage, they grade using the same standards as they do grading non vintage. What this means is your PSA grade will likely be lower, but it is held to the same standards as newer cards. BVG grades vintage in relationship to other vintage- they will give higher #s, but most serious vintage collectors that I know stick to PSA, SGC, or BGS (Not BVG, even though they are owned by the same company)

You get what you pay for !! PSA and SGC are the best ones to go for with vintage. I would never send any of my cards to Beckett and only use PSA.

Now there are ways to get around the "joining there club" thing. You can send your cards to a designated dealer that works with PSA and all you would have to do is pay the normal fees. Check some print magazine ads and some state they are PSA dealers and those are the ones to work with.

No - PSA doesnt cost more, they give you back in value submissions (I think 6) for joining. So it works out about the same price as everyone else. You just have to spend a set amount up front.

There are many treads on this subject so a quick search will get you a lot of info your looking for.

PSA sells the best for vintage because they have been around longest and have a strong registery (if you like that sort of thing) but I find more things that I question when I see there slabs.

BVG can be sometimes very strict. Better for the buyer

SGC has the best eye appeal. And a lot of hardcore guys just do SGC. Great customer service.

Here is what I do:
*Pre-War - SGC I like to buy SGC and submit to SGC but Im a pre-war guy
*Vintage - PSA Most common - overall good - I do have many
*Modern - Beckett hardest grader - get most for your money -
I sometimes but BVG for regrading but
would not send vintage for grading only

In regards to your question about grading companies,if you are keeping these cards for yourself then why grade at all?
I have only had a handful of cards ever graded and the grades assigned made no sense what so-ever.They were graded by PSA and I don't know if they were misgraded on purpose or if they were simply graded by someone with very little experience.
If you must grade then SGC is the company to go with.I have never seen a card misgraded by them.You will also not be forced to pay for a membership fee and deal with bogus turn-around times.
Just my opinion.
