This isn't a dealer ruining anything. This is Paul Assenmacher and others being so stupid to think they can actually charge for his signature. Potter didn't make these guys charge, they chose to let him charge for them.
This is the definition of stupid business. Like cyberer said, this is going to backfire. Not that it can really backfire, because there is no investment, but they aren't going to make any money.
Assenmacher get 100 pieces of mail per week and thinks, "Hey, if I charged $5 bucks a pop I could make $500 a week. That's a good idea." Mr. Assenmacher must have missed economics in high school where they went over supply and demand and where supply and demand meet at a point is price. Well his demand curve is going to to get much smaller when he charges while his supply curve stays the same which will show him he can't make $5 a signature.
The only way this works for a guy like Assenmacher is if he is trying to decrease the volume of mail delivered to his house.
I use Assenamacher as the example because him charging is so funny to me. I probably wouldn't even approach him for a signature if he was doing a free signing on my driveway.Last edited by jyosi; 05-28-2012 at 02:37 PM.

He is legit. People just don't like him because, "he is ruining ttm."

From what I hear he does a great job making sure everyone's stuff is handed properly (many people have said they don't hesitate to send things they wouldn't normally send, rare, expensive etc when he's involved)..
It's not going to ruin TTM.. A lot of these guys will stop getting mail all together probably.. Like others have said, no one is going to pay $5-$10 for some of these guys.

Also I don't think this is going to stop players from signing all together. Doerr is still returning mail as usual, as is Friend and Face. Could just be a few getting back the Potter sheets on occasion before a signing to help him and the player get a few bucks? I mean, really. How often is this guy gonna bounce around the US to do signings for some of these guys? Is he going to go see Erskine to sign the one card someone would be dumb enough to pay $15 for?

I'm sure Assenmacher is not charging $5 to make money....no one gets rich off of $5 per autograph. The token fees (as I have been told by some former athletes) is to cut down on mail and weed out real fans from the lukewarm and people that just want mail in their box.

i got a return today from Billy Pierce c/o his home address & he is on the Potter list for $12 a card & mine was no fee. I would have no fear sending to a well know good signer c/o there home ( Doerr, Tanana, Pierce, Elroy Face, Bob Friend, ect.. ) thats on the potter list.
