The recent disaster in Canada where a one man crew was in charge of a train is a very good reason why no train should ever have one man running the whole thing. You have many factors to consider when on a train that one man can not combat. You have fatigue, medical emergency, train problems, bulletin changes, and many other factors that you have to take into account. Here is my response to a news story on the derailment...

I work for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Them and many of the U.S. railroads want to go to one man crews. This episode here shows just what can happen in that situation. Am I saying that this wouldn't of happened if there had also been a conductor no, but at least there would have been two people to check that the train was tied down properly. If you do not want to have a chance of something like this happening on U.S. soil write or call the government in your state, and tell them no one man crews going through my state.
