Steely Dan - The Royal Scam 1976.
This album contains arguably the greatest guitar solo as stated by the World's greatest guitar players at the time and even today. Larry Carlton stepped into the studio, and on the 2nd take he laid down the Masterpiece on Kid Charlemagne, through the solo bridge and into the song's ending on the 2nd take, all ad-libbed, and a true work of art.
Kid Charlemagne also employs the famous "Purdie Shuffle" invented by session drumming great, Bernard Purdie, and used by every decent drummer in one sense or another since it's invention in the early to mid-70s.
They followed this up within a year with "Aja" - Which won the Grammy Award for the Best Engineered Album of 1977, and in my mind the best engineered album in music history.
Songs like Deacon Blues, Aja, Peg, Josie, and Black Cow have stood the test of time.
